Phantasy Star Online won four awards at the Japan Entertainment Software Awards, the prelude to TGS, including awards for game design, programming, and “new wave” (original concept).
Also, Yuji Naka accetped the award for PSO being the top game of 2000, the “Grand Award of Excellence.” Naka was quoted saying:
I wanted to make an RPG where the world and players were able to become one and where everything was to scale. I’m very proud at how the game turned out…Mr. Okawa must be pleased in heaven as well.
