While Square has struggled in light of the disappointing performance of its film Final Fantasy: Spirits Within, the company’s game business has rebounded quite well. According to sales data released today, more than 5 million copies of Square’s PlayStation 2 RPG Final Fantasy X have been shipped to retailers worldwide. Originally released in July 2001 in Japan, the game has set software sales records for the PlayStation 2 in several regions. Building upon the success of the game, Square has already released a special version of the game in Asia entitled Final Fantasy X: International, which is loosely based on the American version of the game. Similarly, Square is said to be working on two spin-off sequels to Final Fantasy X for the PlayStation 2. Below are sales figures for Final Fantasy X based on geographical region.
