First details on new multiplatform title–back to the roots?
Last week SEGA trademarked the title, Sonic Unleashed, its now been confirmed that will be the tentative name for the next big ‘canon’ Sonic video game. EspioKaos Message Board discovered the first screenshots of the game while browsing SEGA FTP. The first screenshots appear to be a opening cg movie, as well as different screens of locales based in Greece. SEGA Portal also has many of the first leaked screenshots from the game.
SEGA ON has some artwork and the first leaked gameplay footage from the game. The game will play similar to Sonic and the Secret Rings and will switch to a 2.5D classic sidescrolling style gameplay during stages. It appears that the game will follow the storyline featured in Sonic the Hedgehog 06 (Xbox 360, PS3), beginning with Super Sonic being defeated by Dr. Eggman somehow. Some sort of curse is then unleashed upon Sonic, which will turn him into a werewolf (We’re not joking). Though its still unknown how a werewolf turn will alter the gameplay.
The Sonic Stadium and SEGA ON have confirmed that the game will be multiplatform, below is a translated quote from the German SEGA Magazine:
“Sonic unleashed will be on the cover of the next PLAY magazine, it will also feature in Nintendo’s magazine (NOM) and will be in the August issue. The screens I have uploaded are from the Xbox 360 version of the game, however, the game is going to be a multiformat release.”
So what we know so far is that Sonic Unleashed (A tentative title for now, could change) will be mutliplatform for the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii (Will likely be confirmed on the Playstation 3 soon), will have gameplay similar to that of Sonic and the Secret Rings and the Sonic Rush series.
