42% of Americans also Play Online
As part of the Online Gaming 2008 report, the NPD Group surveyed over 20,000 members across America. They found a substantial jump in those who played games, up to 72 percent. Last year, the figure was at 64 percent.
For so many gamers, one would think at least two consoles would be in a home. That’s not entirely the case, according to the study. Only three percent of those polled have two of the three current generation consoles. Two percent said they have all three.
As the focus of the study concerned online gaming, some of the most interesting findings were in that area. 42 percent of those polled overall play games online. Of them, only 19 percent play using their gaming console, as opposed to 90 percent who play on a PC. Furthermore, half of today’s online gamers are over 25. The other 40 percent are under 18, with only ten percent in a coveted 18-24 demo.
