First at TSSZ: Angel Island Whistling Links?
A new short trailer for Sonic Unleashed has made it onto YouTube. Sega of America’s (official?) YouTube channel added a short CG teaser showing off some more potential thematic elements between Sonic, the Were-Sonic creature, and the theory between light and dark that appears to be shaping this game. Below you’ll be able to see the dark creature’s arm rendered, fur and all.
There’s a bit of irony in here, as Sega couldn’t wait to sweep that leaked trailer from YouTube several days back.
Some more astute Sonic fans have noticed what the hedgehog’s whistling in the trailer. According to some speculation over on the Sonic Stadium forums, Sonic has the tune for Angel Island Zone from Sonic 3 on his mind! Forumer T-Bird explains:
It IS the main notes from the bridge in the Angel island Zone track - just to back that up, the last 3 notes (before they are cut off) are the first three note played in the verse. The speed and beat value each note has been given has been dramatically changed though, as well as slower time signature.
That’s a nice little nod isn’t it.
If this “nod” is any indication, Sega may be serious about returning the franchise to the core elements of its heritage that made the franchise great in the first place.
