Classic Gameplay with 2D Beauty
When Hez posted some new screengrabs of Sonic Classic, his fan game in development, it’s hard not to notice the potential this game has. Much of the appeal is derived from the fast, beautiful gameplay Sonic fans have desired for years, with graphic detail indicative of Sonic CD and physics very close to the original.
This is Hez’s original offering to the fan community–a tile to tile recreation of Sonic the Hedgehog for the PC is the other.
The movie above, of Cold Caverns, is one of at least seven confirmed levels so far for Classic. Hez also promises the ability to play as Sonic, Tails, or both. A hard mode, task mode, and a boss attack are also planned. You’ll be able to save your progress along the way as well. Bosses and Special Stages are in the works, and Hez wants community ideas to get the creative juices flowing.
Thus far the game could be the beginning of a purist revival for the fan community, with attempts to faithfully recreate Sonic’s 2D environment more in focus. No word on when the game–or even a demo–will be out, though.

The best Sonic games are the ones made by fans.
Like Sonic Robo Blast 2! This one looks to be another great one.
Willy105, this is because fan made games are usually made by fans, FOR fans. So obviously they’re going to seem better.
But you knew that.
