“Unlock” Brawl EBay Auctions a Scam

Multiple Auctions Promise Secrets Through SD Cards

This auction, claiming the promise of a “100% unlocked” copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, is one of many hitting the EBay auction block of late.

With a starting bid of $9.99, you too can have “All FIghters / Characters,” “All Rule Options,” “All Challenges Complete” among other things.  We could point out that some key hidden characters are missing in the promised “All Fighters,” like Sonic.  If you win, you get an SD card and you get all the secrets.

However, buyers are being lured into a steal…for nothing. In fact, buyers are actually the ones being robbed.

The problem, according to those in the X-Cult forums (not linked, it’s private) is that you just can’t transfer saves from Brawl to another Wii console.  They’re unique to your system.  Oops.

However, that doesn’t stop this seller, who has a 100% positive feedback rating, from selling other potential scams, like this one, claiming to “unlock” everything from Resident Evil 4.  The auction closed at 11 bucks, and it guaranteed “easy instructions” to unlock, which can’t be said for the Brawl auctions.

Scams like this aren’t uncommon on EBay, but the way these transactions are handled, it can be hard for the company to track down offenders and shut them down for bad business.
