DC Soul Calibur to XBOX Live

Near Perfect DC Fighter returns; Soul Calibur IV Link?

While it’s a system long dead, Sega’s Dreamcast is a console quickly becoming hard to forget.  From a still somewhat steady stream of releases for the Japanese DC in recent years to a pretty healthy emulation scene evolving around it, though it may have been a financial failure for Sega, the console and its many high quality games still leave long lasting impressions on anyone who played it.  Who could forget, as an example, Sonic Team’s first and for now best foray into 3D for its flagship hedgehog in Sonic Adventure?

Soul Calibur was another highly heralded title for the Dreamcast, made by Namco.  Unlike Sonic Team of late, they’ve moved  to  bigger and better sequels, with Soul Calibur IV on deck.  Presumably to celebrate the pending Summer launch, Namco is bringing an enhanced version of the Dreamcast Soul Calibur as a download through XBOX Live.

No word on an exact release date yet or a price, but the game will come with high definition graphics, which means the game will improve upon the impeccable visual experience of the original.  There will also be leaderboards for characters and specific modes, but that appears to be the extent of online play.  There definitely won’t be an ability to challenge contenders worldwide–it’s not 100% clear whether bona fide online play anywhere will be a possibility.

Conveniently, Soul Calibur IV will be released to the XBOX 360, as well as the Playstation 3.
