PS3 Outsells 360 in Europe

Finally, a place where the system is doing well

While the Playstation 3 continues its lackluster performance in the States and even in Japan, where the Nintendo Wii is trouncing the purported powerhouse, there is one glimmer of hope for the console–Europe.

Don’t get us wrong–the Wii is still in dominating position there.  However, Sony was able to claim a major victory today when SCEE’s David Reeves announced total sales had overtaken that of Microsoft’s XBOX 360.

Mr. Reeves made the announcement at Sony Playstation Day London ‘08.

In all, 5 million PS3s have been sold on the continent since launch.  That number complements nicer figures for the PS2 and PSP, at 48 million and 12 million sold respectively.

Said Mr. Reeves of the achievement:

These numbers are a testament to the strength of the PlayStation brand throughout our region, the ever-increasing number of titles being launched, the rich content on offer and its appeal to different demographics and cultures.
