Wii Update Kills Several Import Hacks

Freeloader Among Rumored Dead Items

If you import, the Wii’s latest hardware update should be avoided.

At the very least, the v3.3 append will kill the long used hack in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, which allows skilled users to play Wii titles from any region.  However, if you already had the fan-developed Homebrew Channel already installed, that appears to remain intact.

What may not remain intact, however, is that Datel Freeloader you bought.  This new update bricks the ability to use that device, according to some reports.  That would have left several Wii consoles across the globe useless for titles such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which still hasn’t been released yet in Europe or Australia.  If this checks out, some Wii owners abroad have vowed to sell their console, citing the unreasonable time it takes to import.

If any of our readers here have any of these quick fix import utilities and would like to confirm any of the information we’ve just reported, as well as your own reaction should you no longer have a region-unlocked Wii, feel free to post your comments below.
