Screenshots of the recent playtest explained
Before E3 we knew very little about this game but thanks to a recent trailer and a playtest by Gamespot things are starting to become much more clear. Hopefully the new info will have alleviated some fears about Sonic Unleashed, left over from the previous home console game. Below are a series of screenshots from the playtest explained a little by yours truly. You can find the video right here at TSSZ News. Keep your eyes peeled for more breaking news.
A detailed look at the controls doesn’t yield many surprises. The homing attack is given it’s own button but hopefully that’ll make it more accurate
Sonic starts a level still. This isn’t like Secret Rings where he moves forward of his own accord. He even retains a few idle animations
Channelling Sonic 2, Our blue hero decides not to save the world but take a quick nap instead.
Get the combination right and Sonic gets propelled higher, to a shortcut. Get it wrong and he goes lower to a more difficult route with a spike pit to jump over and ledges to climb
Er, Hopefully that’ll be fixed later on. It is just an Alpha build you know.
Platforming fun! Fully singposted with a checkpoint directly behind and enough warning to slow Sonic down.
There are bottomless pits but to be honest they never annoyed me in the platforming bit…They did more when Sonic dived off a track into one when running at full speed
Once again brought to a full stop mid level. You can all stop worrying, this isn’t like Secret Rings. There’s even a 360 camera to get a better look at the blue one and his surroundings.
Controls look a little odd and I’m sure the guy playing said there was a run button to make Werehog Gallop faster…
One of the many attacks. It’s believed there are 30 attacking moves.
More traditional and slow paced platforming. If Werehog misses a jump slightly he can latch onto a ledge with his extending arms.
Pole climbing action! Werehog can also shimmy across ledges, swing from vertical polls and pick up objects.
Balance while crossing the beams or fall into the water and die. Sonic never could swin, not even Sonic The Werehog.

wheres the button for spin dash? or isn’t there one!!!
Nice summary Paul. Where did you hear that there were 30 different combat moves?
Hi David. I heard about the 30 moves from this Gamespot article. It’s impressions they had when they were first shown the game.
