UK All Format Chart, Week 30

Briton wants to get in shape for the summer; buys lots of Wii Fit

Wii Fitis the UK’s number 1 selling game this week as the masses try to find any way they can to loose a few pounds in time for their summer holidays. Wii Fit’s dominating TV presence probably helps with an advert targeted towards women and none gamers. The summer drought continues though as there isn’t a significant game released this week to challenge Wii Fit’s dominating run a the top, hampered last week by a lack of hardware.

Last weeks number 1, Lego Indiana Jones, has to settle with a drop to 5th on the chart as Wall-E stays second thanks to the films popularity and the game being released on every modern console you can think of, Mario Kart Wii overtakes three places from 6 up to third and Guitar Hero On Tour comes from 11th up to 4th, probably as something parents have bought their kids to keep them happy in the summer holidays.

In Sega land things are looking good for Mario & Sonicas the Olympic theme game holds onto the number 7 spot with little over a week to wait until the real thing. To put that games popularity in perspective Mario & Sonic was released for Wii then DS near Christmas 07 and is still in the top 10. The Official Beijing 2008 game is all the way down in 15th place despite being released for more consoles than Mario & Sonic. Madness!

Sonic and the Secret Rings has vanished from the top 40. I’ve looked everywhere and it’s just not there. In it’s place is Sega Superstars Tennisall the way down in number 32. Criminally underrated the Sega All-Star Tennis romp is genuninely a good game and worth picking up, especially now you should be able to find it for sale much lower than recommended retail price.
