New Announcement Reveals New Details
With all the hubbub surrounding SAGE, it’s very easy to overlook another major fan game undertaking in Sonic 2 HD. Headed by Vincent on the Sonic Retro forums, its purpose is, according to him, to “remaster Sega’s classic Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in high definition graphics, whilst at the same time precisely preserving the original gameplay.”
Thus far, it appears development is coming along swiftly, and while there’s no indication as to whether it will be seen at SAGE, there will be a tech demo released, according to Vincent’s latest announcement, on September 15th. With regard to engine development, the newest information from late last month is as follows:
-We are currently developing a dedicated S2HD Engine in C++
-The graphics is now developed to accept 32bit png images (alpha channels enabled)
-Audio already supports OGG playback with looping
We’ll continue to keep tabs on Sonic 2 HD.
