SAGE ‘08: Sonic Nebulous

Dark, Gritty, Mature…Is this the next step forward for SFGs?
Sonic Nebulous, from Pink Ninja Monkey Studios, has a lot going for it on the surface.
Based upon the SatAM and early Archie comic series, the first thing noticeable is the wild detail in art. You can have a look at it from the video below. Art direction for anything like this in a Sonic game hasn’t been seen since Sonic Spinball.
Further, in t he team’s own words:
Nebulous styled gameplay is very instinctive and is extremely fast paced. The camera has the ability to zoom in or out, and revolve around the player as loops and slopes are encountered along the path taking gameplay to a new extreme.
This exclusive SAGE release now features eleven playable characters each with their own gameplay styles and special abilities. New players to the character roster include Mecha-Sonic, Antoine D’Coolette and Julie-Su the Echidna.
Nebulous is expected to see a full release in September. Have a look at their demo at the booth, or get some first impressions from this promotional video.

Loved this game… it has a fair bit of flaws but its different the use of effects are brilliant and on another level they have used the Gamemaker tool beautifully.
