Conflicting Information on Samba Delay

SoE claims week delay, retailers haven’t caught up

There are some conflicting reports as to the release date of Samba de Amigo and whether it has changed, particularly in Europe.

The Gearbox developed revival of a Sonic Team classic has been listed on Sega of Europe’s website as being delayed a week to September 26th.  That in of itself is very interesting because if true, that means this title will compete directly with the European launch of Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.  Unless Sega has low expectations for Samba, gaming companies typically try not to compete against themselves, especially as there are blockbuster hopes for Chronicles at the moment.  The argument could be made that the two games are for two different consoles, but marketing muscle may now have to be split between two different launches if true.

Further complicating the matter is news that retailers in the UK haven’t updated their information to reflect the delay.  We checked with Amazon.co.uk and HMV stores, both of whom still have the game listed for a September 19th release.

Sega of America’s site has a domestic release still a bit open-ended, with just “September 2008″ listed.

We will work hard to sort this information out.  When we have something definitive, we’ll be sure to let you know.
