Tweaker Resigns as Sonic Retro Admin

Tristan Oliver, Founder | October 1, 2008

Reasons for Departure Unclear

Tweaker, the man who aided in the merge of the Sonic 2 Beta page with Sonic Retro, has resigned his post as Sonic Retro forum administrator.  He is now only ranked as a Tech Member.

Accounts on the Sonic Retro forums indicate that the demotion was self-imposed, and his lesser role in the community may not be limited to Sonic Retro.

Tweaker is well known in the Sonic community for his reverse engineering feats.  He did take some heat in later 2006 during his tenure as co-administrator of the Sonic 2 Beta page, run at that point by another Sonic community veteran LocalH.  His board management created a clash of ideals, and that eventually lead to a board split.  Still, Tweaker played a pivotal role in the merge between the S2Beta page and Sonic Retro just a year later.

More recently, Tweaker spoke out on this site just a week ago, proclaiming quite vocally that he will not allow anyone who cannot speak English to post on the forum.  We should be clear that there is no indication at present that those comments had any factor in his stepping down, and that many in the community did not take his words–or, for that matter, our report–seriously.

In contrast to those comments, however, this resignation was quite subdued, and came without much warning or explanation as to why it happened.  Expectations from Retro forumers are that Tweaker may be back in some administrative role down the road.

We have put in a request for comment from Tweaker via E-Mail.  If and when he responds–if he doesn’t respond here first via the Comments box–we will be sure to update and follow up on this story,
