Sonic “UK’s Most Popular Videogame Character”

Beats tough competition such as Mario, Lara Croft and… Blanka?

London Games Festival is a few days from getting in full swing but one game character has already started the party. Our very own spiky blue blur has been voted the UK’s most popular videogame character in a poll conducted by the festival itself.

Sonic came top with a staggering 24% of the vote, his lifelong rival Mario relegated to second place only receiving 21%. All of this might sound very impressive but the press release stresses that 500 people took part in the vote. Plus TSSZ News didn’t see anything about it otherwise we would probably have pointed a link towards it. The rest of the top 10 reads like this:

1. Sonic the Hedgehog (24 per cent)
2. Super Mario (21 per cent)
3. Lara Croft (Tomb Raider) (16 per cent)
4. Donkey Kong (11 per cent)
5. Pac Man (10 per cent)
6. Link (The Legend of Zelda) (5 per cent)
7. Max Payne (4 per cent)
8. Pikachu (Pokemon) (3 per cent)
9. Niko Belic (Grand Theft Auto series) (2 per cent)
10. Blanka (Street Fighter) (1 per cent)

Never mind how many people voted, a victory over Nintendo and Mario was enough for Sonic to celebrate. In fact he was that excited that he decided to take a tour around London having his picture taken a various landmarks that you can see below.

Sonic is touted to appear at the London Games Festival and TSSZ News will be sending their only UK based reporter (that’d be me then) to track him down.
