Annual Charity Drive Begins with High Hopes
It is now painfully obvious that the gaming industry will not stay strong during this global economic downturn. Even the big guys like Electronic Arts have been forced to cut back, slashing hundreds of jobs in the hopes of staying afloat.
By the same token, charities are bracing for much lower donation amounts during this Holiday season. All levels of charitable contributions, from corporations to individuals, are dwindling due to the struggling economy.
So what happens when both gaming and charity collide with the financial mess? We’re about to find out.
Child’s Play, now in its sixth year, is back, and ready to accept donations of either toys, games, or money to children’s hospitals around the world. Already the total amount raised is pretty impressive, with over $100,000 in donations accumulated. The Child’s Play 2007 drive raised a total of $1.3 million for hospitals around the world.
Major sponsors and donators to Child’s Play remain, including Microsoft and Blizzard Entertainment. But that doesn’t mean you can’t make a difference. On the front page of Penny Arcade, it was reassured that even a small donation can do wonders:
I understand that the way things are right now, buying toys for sick kids might not be an option no matter how much you’d like it to be. I wanted to make sure you knew that even giving a couple dollars to Child’s Play helps out. Trust me when I tell you that it all adds up and as you can see by the mail above it really makes a difference. You guys have never ceased to amaze me with your generosity and I’m sure 2008 will be no different.
As you can see with some of our new banner imagery, TSSZ News supports the good work of Child’s Play. We urge you to donate what you can to the charity, and ask your friends and family to do the same.
