Game Informer: 6 Range All Around for Unleashed

360/PS3 Edition Gets Lower Score than Wii Edition
The prospect of Sonic Unleashed being the hedgehog’s next triumphant return are looking increasingly grim.
Between the three reviews seen thus far–the Daily Telegraph’s 5, IGN’s 7s, and Nintendo Power’s 8, the numbers have thus far been all over the place. Now, we can add a 6, a 6.5, and a 6.75 into the foray, from Game Informer magazine.
The magazine and online portal appeared to review all versions of the game, albeit rather compactly. GI’s Ben Reeves noted the daytime levels are fantastic but his words reconfirm that it’s only a portion of the experience:
Sega’s tech is impressive, as Sonic’s sprawling levels speed by without a hitch. Occasionally you’ll have to dial in a button-pressing event or quickly jump over to a branching path, but for the most part Sonic’s speedy levels are rollercoaster rides you cruise through. If these traditional Sonic levels were the only gameplay in this disc, I might have walked away amused. Sadly, they only make up about a third of the overall experience.
Interestingly enough, the XBOX/PS3 version received a 6 out of 10, with the Wii edition, even with less levels and less visual polish, getting a 6.5. Reeves explains:
The Wii version has less annoying traits than the others and still retains all the usual mediocrity. The motion-control elements in the Werehog levels add an extra dimension to the action, and the hub worlds are entirely text-based and aren’t nearly as annoying. If you can stand the diminished graphics, the Wii version actually edges out the PS3 and 360 entries.
Second opinion writer Matt Hegelson gave all editions a 6.75, and with Reeves calling the Werehog platforming “frustrating,” he called the entire Werehog gameplay “botched.”

Well that sucks, but guess what ? I don’t give a shit about the reviews as long as the game fully amuse me, that’s my Sonic that I missed during the past 5 or 6 years ago. And if they don’t like it, well i should call Mr. Monster guy to kick some IGN or whatever’s ASS.
will this is a pathetic score Telegraph’s 5 WTF IGN’s 7s is pretty much ok and Nintendo Power’s 8 is a Great score for the game but Telegraph hmph they seem stupid like are you serious Telegraph go die -_- and i am still buying the wii version regardless of the score they are giving and also if i had a playstation 3 or Xbox360 then i would still buy it
I have rented this game and have played it for quite a long time now and even though I almost never listen to VG reviewers,(especially those from newspapers)I must agree with Game Informer and Telegraph this time.
As I expected, Unleashed is not the game that can put the series back on its right track.
Hashimoto and his team really should have taken more of what made Sonic amazing, instead they just took the speed and nothing else and they still went the “random giant monster”,”random rock band theme”,”find the chaos emeralds” and “new character” directions. And don’t get me started on the Werehog.
So yeah, even if Unleashed did some things right,(like the plot for the most part being lighthearted and funny, the cartoony looks for the humans and the 3.D and 2.5D camera sweeps) I still find it medicore and far from the long awaited Sonic game Hashimoto claimed it was.
SU is much better then what they say. It’s better if a real Sonic fan make a review.
You know what? That’s really bad and all, but a) it’s getting higher scores than Sonic 06, b) one of them said that there are more werehog levels at the start but nearer to the end of the game you get more daytime levels, maybe some of them just haven’t got that far, c) I stopped listening to reviewers after Sonic 06/ShTH. While I understand that from a game critic point of view, they were terrible, I had lots of fun playing both those titles. Not a waste of money at all. Unleashed is looking even better to me and I think the werehog sections will be MORE fun than the daytime sections. So really, I don’t care. This is still going to be my Sonic experience that I’ve waited years for.
OMFG! Game Informer is so not informing!
Someone drive a car bomb into their HQ, or hire a gang to kick them all in the nards!
I can’t believe they are reviewers! They are so…in need to have their heads blown!
“So what?” I say. Werehog stages are really fun! Also, the daytime stages are so fast, and once you have mastered them, you can try and take it slow. The Wii version’s static hub doesn’t phase me at all; on the contrary, it’s very user-friendly. The graphics are amazing as well. The PS3 and 360 Versions may graphically be superior, but the Wii version has so many fun points to it.
(By the way, use the GCN controller, much easier.)
