Kikizo, Finnish Gaming Site Chime in
The pain caused by this week’s one-two punch of both IGN and Gamespot giving low scores to Sonic Unleashed for the XBOX360 can be nursed some. Two more sites have posted their opinion, and both have given the game a 7 out of 10.
The first is another one of the majors, Kikizo Games. You’ll note right off the bat is that the byline for the review is that of Svend Joscelyne, Dreadknux, who runs the Sonic Stadium. Evidently, he wrote two different reviews for Kikizo and the Stadium. Calling the game beautiful and saying the daytime levels are fun, he, like so many others, was not fond of the Werehog. Unlike many others, however, his comments weren’t as harsh toward the alter ego:
The Werehog stages are nowhere near as fast and at first they offer a nice change of pace from the manic action going on in the daytime. But once you get into them you realise that they’re really rather shallow, offering next to no satisfying gameplay (unless you’re a fan of Fighting Force or something).
You fight multiple enemies with health bars in different rooms, one after the other, and because of the monotony of the fighting these stages can feel three times longer than the Sonic ones. When you’re not hitting the Y button constantly to rid the enemies as quickly as possible, you’ll be spending time balancing on beams over bottomless pits or engaging in frustratingly simple platform puzzles. There just doesn’t seem much point or joy in doing these.
Dreadknux also wasn’t fond of the camera mechanics in the game.
The second review comes from Finland, where that country’s Game Reactor bestowed another 7 on the game. Interesting to note there, most of the core components of the score were in the 8 range, with the final score, “Longevity,” grabbing the 6.
We’ll continue to bring you all the latest scores involving Unleashed–it looks like we’re hitting the home stretch here.

You know what I’ve noticed Oliver-sama?
Every time a bad rating comes in for Unleashed, a good one comes in and makes it better for me.
At least they gave it a 7, so I have no complaints here.
7 is good but I can’t help but feel critics won’t give Sonic a “Crown” again until he get’s alot of 9 scores.
What I believe is that Sonic’s back, but he’s not totally unstoppable again. One more Sonic Rush or so, and he may be back.
@soap scum: Yeah, lets hope BK does well to, SR did fairly well, so you expect BK will.
A 7 is probably a fair rating for Unleashed, if it was all day levels, I would say way higher, unfortunately the night levels drag it down a bit. I still enjoy them, but theres no getting around that their not as good as the day levels.
O well, can’t win em all
@TailstheHedgehog-san:
I loved Secret Rings, and I’m actually pretty exciting for the Black Knight. And id Knuckles is a boss, hopefully Shadow will too!
7′s not bad, definately better than 3.5, but I won’t be able to sleep well at night until Sonic can pull off an 8.5. So far the highest I’ve seen is an 8.
FINALLY A GOOD RATING.
@Hypo: Yeah, and that was NP.
Anyway, Svend’s good. I always enjoy the articles at the Stadium.
Hi people I’m from portugal and we here simply love SONIC UNLEASHED the stores here sell all time that game, every body loves sonic and the werehog, I think that those reviews from gamespot, game, amazon, etc… are from people who never played a sonic game in their life, they want to kill our little Hedgehog (sonic), I say: SEGA, SONIC TEAM YOU HAVE DONE THE ONE OF THE BEST SONIC GAME EVER!!!, coniinue to give us(fans) games like this one (sonic unleashed)
Peace out… SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 4 EVER!!!
@Crazee: I really enjoy TSS’s articles. I check back every day to see what’s new. I was really looking forward to his Sonic Unleashed review, and I am very happy with it. He knows what he’s talking about.
Now I’m just rambling and sucking up, aren’t I?
Man, those scores are good enough for me.
@Soap Scum: I am excited for the Black Knight too! I can’t wait to fight Shadow so that I can finally SLAY the Ultimate Life Form! If ya know what I mean!
There are other good scores than these, if you go here: http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/sonicunleashed?q=sonic%20unleashed , then you can find a few more.
In the Wii version the camera in the Sonic stages was pretty good, actually. The bad thing was that the camera needed it see an object before homing attack could be used on it, and that is just crap.
But I agree about the Werehog being unwelcome.
Funny how people would speak good of the shooting, hunting, and other junk in SA1 and 2. But now people see that the extra stuff is nothing but padding that was developed instead of more Sonic stages.
