A Pair of 7s for Unleashed

Kikizo, Finnish Gaming Site Chime in

The pain caused by this week’s one-two punch of both IGN and Gamespot giving low scores to Sonic Unleashed for the XBOX360 can be nursed some.  Two more sites have posted their opinion, and both have given the game a 7 out of 10.

The first is another one of the majors, Kikizo Games.  You’ll note right off the bat is that the byline for the review is that of Svend Joscelyne, Dreadknux, who runs the Sonic Stadium.  Evidently, he wrote two different reviews for Kikizo and the Stadium.  Calling the game beautiful and saying the daytime levels are fun, he, like so many others, was not fond of the Werehog.  Unlike many others, however, his comments weren’t as harsh toward the alter ego:

The Werehog stages are nowhere near as fast and at first they offer a nice change of pace from the manic action going on in the daytime. But once you get into them you realise that they’re really rather shallow, offering next to no satisfying gameplay (unless you’re a fan of Fighting Force or something).

You fight multiple enemies with health bars in different rooms, one after the other, and because of the monotony of the fighting these stages can feel three times longer than the Sonic ones. When you’re not hitting the Y button constantly to rid the enemies as quickly as possible, you’ll be spending time balancing on beams over bottomless pits or engaging in frustratingly simple platform puzzles. There just doesn’t seem much point or joy in doing these.

Dreadknux also wasn’t fond of the camera mechanics in the game.

The second review comes from Finland, where that country’s Game Reactor bestowed another 7 on the game.  Interesting to note there, most of the core components of the score were in the 8 range, with the final score, “Longevity,” grabbing the 6.

We’ll continue to bring you all the latest scores involving Unleashed–it looks like we’re hitting the home stretch here.
