What Could Sega be Doing with These Properties?
There is some truth in this rumor alert. As a follow up to Sonic Shuffle‘s re-trademarking, which we covered yesterday, there is now news that Sega have also re-upped the trademark on Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram, as well as the Jet Grind Radio property, known originally outside the United States as Jet Set Radio.
That part appears true. Where the rumor comes in is how those properties will be used.
While they could mean nothing, there is now speculation growing that Sega could deliver these properties either as part of some sort of new compilation, or if the originals will head to some download service, perhaps XBOX Live. The former would make sense as standalone considering the franchises’ one-time stance as a flagship property, but pared with Sonic Shuffle, a lesser entry in the series, that doesn’t make sense. There is also the remote possibility that these franchises will be revived in a next-generation form.
We’ll continue to track where these trademarks lead to, if anywhere.

The Jet Set Radio retrademark will please my little sister, who has been waiting for updates on that game since the story about the Wii pitch (To be honest, so am I! I loved the games).
Let’s see what develops from these stories…
Extras on the Sonic Genesis collection? I realized they aren’t Genesis titles, but it’s possible.
That’d be cool if Sonic Shuffle/Jet Set came to Wii Virtual Console.
yes jet set radio!!
i would love for that to come on the 360
They should make Sonic Adventure 1/2 available for download.
What about Ultimate Dreamcast Collection? SA1/2, JSR, Space Channel 5 etc.
probably just protecting their intellectual property.
or you know, getting ready for another SEGA tennis game
