SBK: More info, art, and official JP release date

ONM says, “It’s a good time to be a Sonic fan.”

In the latest issue of Official Nintendo Magazine, they’ve shown off a lot of the upcoming games in 2009. On their site, they posted their views on the 2009 games that are also featured in their new issue.

Sonic & the Black Knight was one of the many 2009 games:

The story goes that a sorceress summons
Sonic to free King Arthur’s realm. See, Arthur’s been corrupted and
he’s gone a bit barmy, calling himself the Black Knight and generally
wrecking the joint. Sonic is told that his speed won’t be enough to
beat the Black Knight, so he’s given a sword to help him on his quest.

They go over almost everything that was said in Nintendo Power’s last issue; with how Sonic Team is trying make the mission simpler and less frustrating. Here are the key parts to their preview:

  • Numbers of improvements have been made since last game
  • Skill system returns and is now more balanced
  • Sword play becomes more advance when battling bosses
  • Will not be using Wii MotionPlus
  • Cut-scene music by Richard Jacques

Black Knight is scheduled for a release around March of 09, and recently, SEGA of Japan announced an official release date for SBK. Japanese gamers can expect to receive their copy on March 12th, 2009.

And to wrap things up, here’s a new render of Sonic and his talking sword, Calibur.
