SeanieB over at Sonic Retro aims to create a comprehensive database of all existing official and unofficial Sonic music.
In a project that seems very similar in a lateral way to the Sonic Art Archive, SeanieB is starting up the Sonic Music Archive (unconfirmed official title).
I’ve seen several pages stuffed into the side of less than awesome Sonic sites, collecting the music for the games, but generally unorganized, without album art/information or any real discussion of it at all.
Thus I came up with the idea to start a Sonic music archive, the go to place for Sonic tunes.
SeanieB is looking for people to help him out with this project by contributing music that they own to the database. Quoting him:
I’d rather take copies from the community at large instead of taking it off another site, that’s kinda lame, I wanna be able to give people credit, not a buncha credit to sonicroms.co.uk If someone there wants to submit something they can, but I don’t rip them off.
It’s premise that has it’s pros and cons. As soon as I read this article post by Slingerland, I straight away thought “this has been done before”. A personal favorite fansite of mine is FastFeetMedia.net. FastFeet and his team run a website that’s totally devoted to Sonic and SEGA media, including all existing official music from Sonic. This is always the first place I got to for music. However, Sonic Retro admin, Tweaker addresses my previous point in his response to this idea in the Sonic Retro forums. He said:
I think this has potential to be something more; something that separates it from every other generic Sonic fansite with various Sonic OSTs laying on an FTP.
I think he has a valid point here. If this project were to be a comprehensive database of information as well as music downloads, then this would defiantly be a site worth visiting. I could picture it working like a Wikipedia for Sonic music.. or rather a Sonic Retro for Sonic music! The only problem that could occur from heading in this direction is a lack of information about Sonic music. After indicating what Game > Zone > Act the music is from the information kind of dries up. Staff and community members from such a project would have to do a lot of research into the music to dig up interesting information to keep readers, well, reading!
Reasons for and against aside, this is defiantly a breath of fresh air for the community as a whole. I for one am very intrigued to see how it goes.
SeanieB is looking to launch the site within the coming months and needs the community’s support in filling the database as far as it can get. He is interested in MIDIs, VGMs, MP3s, and remixes. Check out the thread here to see what he is currently looking for.

…….Shadow of a Hedgehog already exists guys.
Yeah but Shadow of a Hedgehog zips everything :p
To reiterate Tweaker again here. This would not be a storage space type website for Sonic music. This is a library of music with information to read and learn.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Shadow of a Hedgehog. New projects in the community are always good though! XD
Also, it will likely include soundalikes(such as the Micheal Jackson comparison remixes) or referance material(such as what songs might be influenced by other material).
It could also include Crush 40, Dreams Come True and other material from groups that reguarly contribute to Sonic games…as well as background info on the artists themselves.
And maybe , from what I gather, songs in multiple formats(mp3′s, lossless, vgm…whatever) for conveniance and being complete.
I support them project. I really should post on Retro one day, instead of lurking. It’s my favorite Sonic forum.
Thanks for putting me up here guys, I’m still accepting media at this time over on Sonic Retro.
