Further Proof that the Internet Never Forgets
First, their reviewer couldn’t be bothered to play through half of Sonic Unleashed. Then, the gaming megasite had to apologize for treating another Sega title unfairly.
Now, IGN staffers apparently don’t know who’s where within the company.
Several websites–and at least one of our readers, iwh, who sent in the news tip–caught a gaffe in yesterday’s Wednesday Ten article on IGN. The story discusses cancelled games they want released. Shenmye III is on that list, but it’s their rationale that caught many people’s attention.
The original article stated that Yu Suzuki, one of the principal men behind the franchise, left SEGA…to form Prope:
“Creator Yu Suzuki leaving SEGA to form PROPE, his own studio, all but cemented the game as not ever happening, which is, of course, a crying shame.”
It was in fact Sonic Team head Yuji Naka who left to form Prope.
Someone evidently alerted IGN to the gaffe, but their fix wasn’t much better:
Creator Yu Suzuki leaving SEGA all but cemented the game as not ever happening, which is, of course, a crying shame.
In fact, Yu Suzuki hasn’t left Sega at all. He continues to be a creative officer, and in fact spoke about the prospects of Shenmue Online a few months back. IGN may have caught wind of Simon Jeffry’s words over the Summer, but ultimately never followed up.
You may not be able to spell ignorant without IGN, but we can certainly be ignorant, at times, without the help of news tips from readers like you. If you have a story you’d like to share, let us know by clicking the News Tips tab at the top of every page.

IGN … what should we do with you…? -.-
It’s been said a zillion times before, but it’s true:
You can’t spell IGNorant without IGN.
Any news?
@Kits’Okami: I’m with you.
Yeah, I was pretty surprised when I saw that.
God that is sad…that this is classified as news. Oh well better than the forum drama bullshit he looks for…
Well, this isn’t important news at all, but it is Sonic-related info which serves a comical purpose. I think these kinds of updates add flavor to the news lineup. Heck, all news sites throw in extras (like this update) for fun. I see no problem as long as we’re getting normal news updates as well.
I find this pretty funny. It’s better than most news today…I’m looking at you, CNN.
