Comic Con ‘09 Exclusive: SoA’s Elvin Gee Talks about SBK

Tristan Oliver | February 8, 2009

Tristan’s Interview gives you New Details on the Game

Sega of America’s Elvin Gee, who mas manning the only working booth for Sonic and the Black Knight during the day on Saturday, took a few minutes to talk to me on tape about the game.

As you listen to the audio interview below, keep in mind a couple of things–first, it was very loud on the show floor, and second, Gee was splitting his time between my interview, and making sure everyone lining up to play the game had a fair shake.  The latter will become evident at one point in the interview.

For those wondering what apples are doing in this game, Gee told me that they are a part of the game’s health system.  Gee explained that what was on the show floor was only a tutorial level, meant to get players accustomed to the game’s mechanics.  In fact, there were points where a few gamers were trying to play other levels, and Gee had to stop them and move them along.  Considering Nintendo Power recently reviewed what appears to be the full game, that was quite strange and suspicious, because it appeared as if Sega did bring the full build along.

Gee told me that SBK went right into development almost immediately after Sonic and the Secret Rings and has been in the works for nearly two years.  We also discussed the company’s expectations for the game and the reaction to the first score given by the gaming press.

Check it out below.  We have two more audio interviews on the way, and my full impressions of what was shown are coming Monday morning.
