Managing Editor Talks Only to TSSZ About Sonic #200
Mike Pellerito is the VP / Magaing Editor of Archie Comics. You’ll find out why that bears repeating at the beginning of the audio interview below.
Archie did have a pretty healthy presence at the New York Comic Con, not just with Sonic, but its other key properties, including Archie, Jughead, and Betty, to name but a few. It’s interesting to note that the free Sonic comics Archie staffers were giving away–a whole stack of the Free Comic Book Day edition–quickly disappeared as the afternoon went on.
Pellerito took some time out of his schedule to speak about the Sonic comic series, which have now been published by Archie since 1993. He talked to me about what the Sonic brand means overall to Archie as a business, and he spoke a bit about how the comic has maintained good consistency in its more than 15 years of existence while the games have seen more wild fluctuations.
But the big news you’ll get out of this interview is that Pellerito discussed with me some points about the upcoming 200th issue of the Sonic comic. We can share exclusive details about the issue’s plot that you won’t find anywhere else–but you’ll only get up to speed if you listen to what the managing editor has to say below in the uncut interview.

Must…get…200
Hmm……sounds interesting. I’ll be sure to get my hands on issue 200 once it’s released.
Sonic vs. Doctor Robotnik showdown eh? Sounds interesting.
As for the comics consistency, I think not. They took a huge dip around issue 50 (Robotnik died. No shit the comic’s going to get worse), progressively getting worse until about issue 130ish. They’ve been getting better though.
Fingers crossed for a hell in a cell match…
Having every issue since #0 of the original miniseries (a few issue missing here and there up until around 26), as well as every special, spin off, 3 part mini-series, the entire Knuckles and Sonic X run, as well as every reprint so far (including the Sonic Firsts TPB not the SSS reprint), I have to say they do keep a consistent good quality in their stories. I have to disagree wit PJMan, the series really only took a dip around the time Sonic got back from his trip with Tails to defeat Naugus. But it picked up quickly a little after issue 75, about the time Eggman (Mecha Robotnik, Robotnik Mach II, or anything else you want to call him) appeared.
Then there’s the SSS which started a little after the Endgame, those are really well written. The Knuckles series also started a little after the end of the Endgame, and those were the most serious (and darker) issues in the Sonic series.
If you take these into account there was always a consistent series being published. If the Sonic series was getting too much for you at that point, you could always have picked up an issue of Knuckles or for a little lighter take the SSS.
I’d like to see an book containing Tails’ miniseries and Knuckles’ miniseries and main one as well. And maybe Sally…
Whens Free Comic Book Day?
Whoa, 200 sounds like a whopper of an issue.
Can’t wait to read it. *crosses fingers that Yardley will pencil and Herms colors*
