Scans Already Circulating
There are already some scans circulating throughout the Internet of the Official Nintendo Magazine’s coverage of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. This morning, we reported that ONM actually delayed shipments of the magazine to allow time for Sega to officially announce the title.
The two we have hosted below are probably far from complete, but Sonic Stadium message board member D’harhan managed to snag them. You can take a look at them below. Some of the few screenshots appear mixed between the Wii and DS editions.

Awwww man! I SO WANT that pic on the front without all the stuff there to use as wallpaper! this is great! please tell me that pic with shadow is the DS version, cause if its the wii one it looks suckish, but oh well graphics look pretty much the same perhaps a tad better ^^
Is it just me or does Mario look really stupid?
I mean comon! They always make Mario look like something for kids that’s only 3/4/5 years old. They really need to give Mario an atitude and cooler design. Just look at Sonic, awsome pose and he looks really cool And then look at mario.

Not to be like that but it’s never something wrong with Mario, and no one destroys Mario formus(Like they do with Sonic). I thinks it’s time someone give Mario some crettic. But this game dosen’t look bad, I love sport games to Wiiiiiii.
Osnic: But maybe Mario is stupid? In SSBB he has atitude! But when Miyamoto have the power Mario always will be “stupid”.

Because that totally wouldn’t be character derailment. Besides, Mario is doing a ski jump whereas Sonic is doing a vert snowboard trick. The kind of jump Mario is doing is graded on how long and graceful it is.

I think both look good! Sonic is the cool one and Mario is the silly but both look good!
Phos: I know it would be bad if they changed too much, but real heroes have attetude. Mario is just Wha! And jump, he can’t talk and if he can’t talk he can not say something bad and irretrating to bowser or something.
But the thing I mean is that he looks srupid, not the thing with the ski jump. Just look at the face.
Yeah Werehoog you’re right, he has an attetude in brawl, the only game he really shows what he can actually.
Back in the console wars, Sonic was always viewed as the one with the attitude. That was his shtick. I personally like how the two are portrayed here because it reflects that. Mario is happy go lucky, and Sonic’s got the attitude.
Not going to lie, that front cover art is awesome. This better be the final box art.
I also like how they portray their attitudes perfectly. Mario’s all happy while Sonic’s showing off and has a sorta “I’m cool” expression on his face.

I agree with Just Passing Through, Mario is not the guy that need a ‘tude. I mean, he is a plumber, but, other than constantly going through pipes, what actually plumbing has he done in over 20 years (officially)? And even then, not all plumbers have attitudes.
Mario having an attitude only works when he’s doing something badass (like kicking other Nintendo characters’ asses, and maybe even in Mario Kart. Maybe), not… skiing. Mario is a friendly rival of Sonic, and the Olympics are about sportsmanship. Sonic would be the guy to show off, but definately not Mario.

Man, the first one was enough, in my opinion. But seeing as how many enjoyed the first, it only makes sense to make another one, I suppose. Oh well, the snowboarding should be fun.
Something tells me this game will be very white.

What. The. Fuck. Eh, it’s alright. I was 14 once too.
Can’t say I’m excited at all as I hated the first one, but hey, if it sells well then let them make more. The first one is still a top seller in the UK even though it’s over a year old!!!
Now I have seen the shots and the tralier for this game,looking good.
hmm its.. eh. I mean yea since it was so popular I knida they knew theyd make another one… but its like MOMENTS before a new sonic game is realsed another one is announced (im counting this one as a sonic game being mostly made by sega) its like we cant we go one day without hearing about some kind o sonic game, and while Ill probably get this one beacuse Ill think snowboarding,bobsleding,and ice hockey (is the oltimpics is being held in canada you know its going to have ice hockey as some sort of dream sport) is alot more fun than gimmicky boring olympic events. plus the cover kicks so much ASS!!! i mean the last one look so… bland.
Looking at it again, I think the issue is that the face Mario is making doesn’t fit what he’s doing (landing a jump like that is going to take some concentration).
The attitude Mario had in SSBB was poorly done, it was like drawing angry eyebrows onto a picture of someone’s grandmother. He doesn’t really need an attitude, considering he was designed to be an instrument of the player’s will. Sonic was designed based on the image that Naoto Oshima had in his of Americans during the 90′s, but Sonic seems to have decided years ago that he’s way to cool to let anyone else control him, so now the player is as much a spectator as they are a player.
I wouldn’t call Mario happy-go-lucky, so much as optimistic or lighthearted. In Brawl, he would only look angry if something was going wrong (like the first Halbeard cutscene) or he was attacking. Any other time (even when you lose a game), he was his normal self, he didn’t look imposing at all. Sonic always looks “cool” or “upset” because he’s an ass. He’s always has been an ass, and always will be an ass. Personally, I wouldn’t have either one any other way.
Agreed. Mario and Sonic are Mario and Sonic. You can’t change how they are. That’s like saying Mickey Mouse needs an attitude(I guess there is Kingdom Hearts) or Bugs Bunny needs to be dark(does the horrid Loonatics ring a bell?)!

Skai = D: Thats my opinion. Because Sonic does he does his own thing, as does Mario, and Mario shouldn’t be badass because he’s a happy guy. Not necessarily freakishly fixated on a smile but cheerful, and always ready for a chalenge, Sonic is a guy who’ll do anything to save the world from Eggass. END.
Oh, and one more thing. Is it me, or are the DS shots in better quality than the Wii’s? :S
