Details on Boss Fights, and Why a Psychologist?
If you haven’t looked at our previous story recently, we’ve updated it with a working YouTube link to the Gameone preview of Sonic and the Black Knight. The video is out of Germany, and if you haven’t seen it, you may want to before looking at the text below.
What follows is a translation from that interview, with great thanks from our German news partner Spindash.de, and in particular Fish, who translated the German for us.
The translation explains why Gameone talked to a psychologist for the interview–they were mocking Sonic’s identity crisis. It also elaborates on how the boss battles will go. There will, apparently, be a mix of swordplay and QTE events. Overall, don’t let the video deceive you–Gameone is not very optimistic about SBK’s chances of success.
Take a look for yourself below, and stay with TSSZ News as we bring you more SBK information as it comes in.
What happened to Sonic? The Super Star is in a crisis, the last games were really absurd (you’ll see some parody-covers to Sonic and the seven dwarfs, Sonic at the Pony Camp) and Sega wants with Black Knight to tie in with the old success. The story let you assumes that the game is a delusion were a mutatedKing Arthur terrorizes the country.
Sonic? Middle Age? King Arthur? Have all the bad games driven Sonic into madness? We want to know what’s wrong with him and asked one of the most popular psychologists.
“Sonic may stepped into the crisis as he had the feeling he is more then just a blue hedgehog. He wants to step up and thinks ‘I belong to the Knights of the Round Table’ and he gets a boost.” (It’s a german pun here, the original is ‘tierischer auftrieb’ which means animal boost aka ego boost’)
Not enough with this Sonic calls now to the arms too. It’s a blade with the name Caliburn and also talks with him. This sudden violence may be a surprise for fans but it’s psychologically explainable.
“He is not just a hedgehog with spines, he must also show that he can defend himself with weapons, which is something dangerous… well you can’t just go over him.”
The next part is a quick overview for the game which is for the most part not interesting or something new for the community (if you ever played Secret Rings). But: The negative points are the quick time events according the both MTV guys because you have to stop during the running and solve quick time events. One other point is collection stupid fruits and to ‘show
off’ (don’t ask me what this means, maybe some in-game Currency?)The psychologist says that collecting stuff refers to “Look, I’m rich…well, I have power! Being a cutie alone is not enough for Sonic, he wants to be accepted and with the collecting stuff he can say “I’m rich, I’m bright, I’m beautiful.”
The Boss-fights are a mix off Wii-swinging (‘Wiimote-Gefuchtel’, popular german insider word for swinging the remote like a noob) and Quick Time Events. The Boss fights won’t win a award for being original but they’re a refreshing difference from the rest of the game. Completely different is the multiplayer-mode too but it’s very imprecise and dull and it doesn’t make
any fun. Overall it doesn’t look good for our Sonic. If characters like Sonic have the feeling to grab the attention they want, they really will do anything to get them. A downfall in the mass is, for a character like Sonic, unimaginable. He must be on top, he must be better and faster as everyone and even when it’s the fastest knight from the round table.
Looks like that the game is just mediocre again, unless will change before the release. Sonic and the Black Knight looks like fun but isn’t, because of the design-slashes (“Design-Schnitzern”, some kind of weird german word-combination, I think it means bad gameplay design) and a laughable story. It seems that Sonic has forgotten why the people liked
him so much. The bad is, if people like him are running for years on this idea, he doesn’t know how he can be and maybe he should feel how he was a long time ago. It’s important to let him be the hedgehog as he was designed and to take a break to regenerate himself.

Well to each his own… until sonic’s had a really good stream of competent games (in eyes of reviewers) we’re gonna have to live with this sort of rubbish. And even then a single mistake will send the critics into a ravenous frenzy of bloodthirsty nitpicking.
as for sonic taking a break, meh. Sonics new games don’t seem to be bothering anything but the critics. The sonic fans seem to love the games and we’re here by the hordes. ^_^
@TailsTheHedgehog: Gaaaaaaaaah, its like X-Play only with no redeeming qualities…like they save the whining for the review. >__<;;
Why did they give a press preview for a show that obviously isn’t going to say anything that the reviewers don’t already think?
lol fanboys
you know? if everyone hates sonic WHY THE FUCK ARE THERE PAYING SO MUCH ATTETNTION TO HIM!!!!!!!!!! jesus just leave him alone pand go destroy some other franchise with your shitty reviews
Yeah, if they don’t lie him don’t give him attention. They just want him to look bad and thats lame and shows the stupidness of people. I’m not trying to protect Sonic, I”m just tierd of hearing all this shit in forums where we(fans) talk about Sonic. That’s so anoying, they can have thair opinion but they give us problem and destroy for us.
And I don’t get the germans humour. It isn’t fun…they’re kinda stupid.(I don’t mean all the normal germans now!)
It’s destroying itself, nitwit.
@Crysore: That reminds me of something… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHmvkRoEowc
I pay close attention to him because I want him to see him succeed.
They could be right. This isn’t like the Unleashed criticism, which was obviously unfounded. We could see from trailers and gameplay that accusations of “plays itself”, “too easy” or whatever bull they put out was most likely not true and just the flavor trailers give off.
Knowing that this is a sequal to a fun but flawed game, and we haven’t seen a lot of gameplay…we shouldn’t criticize those who have already encountered th title more than us. Unlike the Unleashed previews, they have more knowledge than us. Sega hasn’t been as upfront with trailers, here.
That said… i hink the game will be good. But let’s not be stereotypical fans here and criticize legitimate commentary until we know what we’re talking about. Even if they’re criticisms sound more like whining than any sort of analysis. Just calling a game stupid and dull does not equate to legitmate commentary…I wish people would(oddly) be a little more like IGN and bring up WHY the game sucks. I rarely agree with IGN’s final result…but their previews are always insightful.
Crazee: What…! That was so dumb
Osnic:
I am german and even for me their humor is really lame.
A german!?
Guten Tag, Mr Calamitas!
Ich bin ein Flugzeug?
You are a… What?
Any moron who uses the term “n00b” deserves to be smacked, especially during a game preview.
Ich bin ein Flugzeug translates into “I am an airplane.”
Yes, Sonikku Master, you are an airplane.
Swedish and german are pretty close so I can guess what people say when they speak german.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wm8aXeDm2oM&fmt=18 Summoned gameplay parts from this show, put together as a kind of trailer.
Ich bin ein Flugzeug? ← I’d wonder if you were Sonikku Master.
What was dumb about what I said? I just like restraint.
there’s a new sonic black knight mini game on NEOPETS.COM?! strangely, it even shows a different version of the 2nd trailer.
supersonic: What post a link to it?
ok
its at http://www.neopets.com/games/play.phtml?game_id=1077
Dang. Neopets’ SatBK trailer is the best one so far.
Instead of complaining so much about sonic though that article is funny why dont they give some good opinion?
If they didn’t like it, why would you expect them to say good things about it?
Crysore: Wow, you sounded like a whiny fanboy there, yet… I agree with you…
