Yuji Naka Interviewed; Watch the Four Part Video Now
Do you want to know, in incredible detail, how Sonic went from “Mr. Needlemouse” to one of gaming’s great icons?
Another research gem is now available for public viewing, and it is sure to pique the interests of fans young and old. The four part Gametap series is available on YouTube, and we have video of all four, in order, below. Among some of the tidbits you’ll learn is how Sonic went from conception to completion, the collaboration of Yuji Naka and Naoto Ohshima, among other Sega developers, how Sega of America had to be sold on the idea of Sonic, and how Sega had to slow Sonic down upon the development of the original 16-bit prototype. You’ll learn for the first time top brass explaining the long rumored Michael Jackson influence on the hedgehog, and you’ll see the ill-fated “Sonic Band,” when the blue hedgehog was supposed to have a voluptuous girlfriend.
Mr. Naka and Mr. Ohshima are interviewed for the series, as are several top officials at both Sega of America and Sega of Japan. If you’repart of the new generation of Sonic fans, it’s well worth your time to explore the era when Sega did what Nintendon’t. Veteran Sonic fans and the research community especially will have plenty of material to discuss.
Take a look for yourself below.

I love how Japan despised the American Sonic redesign. Just like me lol.
I also loved how Sonic’s a combination of Western Super Heroes, Speed, Micheal Jackson, Santa, and Bill Clinton.
It`s awesome!!!!!
lol wut
It was actually fun to look at this and it was intresting.
Cool! But I wanted to see more from the newer games. And SU was the best games of all they showed!
Very intresting.All of them.
Sonic is a LEGEND and will continue to grow
*w*
~best character 4ever~
Just loved the japonese design…
sonic like a brother to me he learns good thing to do and I olways think to make a sonic game I trust sega to be a good hard workers and i want to make mario game next soon so I love sonic and mario because they are cool pals so you rock SEGA enjoy.
PJMan, I think you misunderstood that part of the video.
The original Japanese concept for Sonic had a rock band and a girlfriend and FANGS and shit.
SEGA of America took that and tweaked it to give it more international appeal, which then became the TRUE Sonic that we all know today.
So in reality, all that official Japanese Sonic art is really just the American design, just drawn differently.
this just proves Sonic shouldnt be critized from Mario or any kind of fans because he pretty much opened the door to many other new games which would have been a boring wait and also what about Sonic Cd that should be there its like the best game ever to like introduce 3D gameplay and even old items and obstacles and even with upgrades like they say it has including with the new Major Rival Metal Sonic
