Gametap’s Sonic Retrospective

GametapYuji Naka Interviewed; Watch the Four Part Video Now

Do you want to know, in incredible detail, how Sonic went from “Mr. Needlemouse” to one of gaming’s great icons?

Another research gem is now available for public viewing, and it is sure to pique the interests of fans young and old.  The four part Gametap series is available on YouTube, and we have video of all four, in order,  below.  Among some of the tidbits you’ll learn is how Sonic went from conception to completion, the collaboration of Yuji Naka and Naoto Ohshima, among other Sega developers, how Sega of America had to be sold on the idea of Sonic, and how Sega had to slow Sonic down upon the development of the original 16-bit prototype.  You’ll learn for the first time top brass explaining the long rumored Michael Jackson influence on the hedgehog, and you’ll see the ill-fated “Sonic Band,” when the blue hedgehog was supposed to have a voluptuous girlfriend.

Mr. Naka and Mr. Ohshima are interviewed for the series, as are several top officials at both Sega of America and Sega of Japan.  If you’repart of the new generation of Sonic fans, it’s well worth your time to explore the era when Sega did what Nintendon’t. Veteran Sonic fans and the research community especially will  have plenty of material to discuss.
