blackknightComposer gives thoughts on making music for Sonic’s Arthurian Adventure

The Sonic City Blognick strikes again with another tantalising blog from a Sega insider. This time it’s the turn of famous Sega composer Richard Jacques to give an insight into the making of Sonic & The Black Knights’s music. Of course Jacques last Sonic project was Chronicles but the composer leapt at the chance to work on SBL thanks to Jun Senoue giving him the heads up.

“After Jun sent me some details of the game design and some screenshots of the artwork, I already had a clear vision in my mind about what I was going to write.
It’s fantastic to see Sonic’s latest adventure featuring such well known characters from folk lore and legend that provide a rich tapestry of settings for the new Sonic story to unfold. My first task was to score the opening sequence for the game, which features some amazing visuals. This dramatic scene uses a largely orchestral sound palette to reflect the grandiose nature of the story, and introduces the theme of the Black Knight.”

Interesting and insightful the rest of the blog entry can be read here on the Blognick.
