Six Stations Already Cut; Last Hurrah on Easter
Another component of not just the Sonic community, but other celebrations of gaming, have become victims of downsizing.
The ‘Zone Radio Network, better known as ‘ZRN, had existed for nine years and was home to eleven Internet radio stations before yesterday’s announcement that the whole group would shut down. The group in its infancy used to include the radio component of TSSZ News, first known as Seven and then TSSZ One (and eventually TSSZ Two.) It now houses, among other stations, RPG Radio, Remix Radio, Rockman Rush, and VGMusic Radio.
All stations are now looking for a home.
Andrew Wolan, original ‘ZRN founder and network administrator, told TSSZ News of the decision yesterday. A formal announcement came on the ‘ZRN website shortly after by GreenYoshi. The whole group is victim to bandwidth cutbacks, and six stations have already been shut off. According to GreenYoshi, one last show celebrating the network is planned for Easter Sunday:
That’s right. After months of struggles and being offline, the `Zone Radio Network has now been forced to make its exit on the internet. We are having to stop all streams because of decisions taken by the ZTNET Adminstrators (the people that host this site).
In short, the network doesn’t get funding, and the hosts don’t require us to pay for the place either. They have been kind enough to host the `ZRN streamers for YEARS for FREE now, but the bandwidth load and disk space required to keep this place up is proving to be too much for them, so they made decisions to down-size. In this plan, they’re having to cut off the larger resource-eating parts of their servers, and this site was an easy target since it consumes both space and bandwidth.
I can’t blame them if they can’t afford keeping the place intact anymore, but at least they made this decision before we’ve already started major renovations on the network just to find out later that we cannot exist anymore.
So anyway, with the story over, make a record in your diaries. Since we’ve been around for a long time, we want to make a last stand before we officially have to be off air. There will be a live broadcast taking place for the majority of:EASTER SUNDAY 12TH APRIL
Please note, that this is also the last day of streaming, so after the show, don’t expect the streamers to work anymore. I haven’t set a starting or ending time yet, so keep an eye out on this page for further information.
This broadcast will be taken throughout all remaining stations that are still running by that day, which means no matter what channel you’re listening to, it will be the live show.On that note, the following stations will face immediate termination as a signal that our network is packing up:
Channel 1 – Sega Games Radio (SGR)
Channel 2 – Shy Guy’s Music Box
Channel 4 – Neo Anime Music Radio (NAMR)
Channel 8 – Flywheel Radio
Channel 9 – VGMusic Radio
Channel 10 – PC Games
TSSZ News will keep you informed of further details regarding the ‘Zone Radio Network’s last hurrah.
UPDATE 11AM: Dreadknux tells us in the comments below that while SSR on the ‘ZRN is still branded as Sonic Stadium operated, the stream has since been abandoned by Stadium staff. That noted, SSR remains impaired and offline due to the wipeout of TSS earlier this month. The story above has been edited to reflect this information.

sheesh…another one bites the dust (que music)… I hadn’t actually heard of the place to be honest though, but still, a site goes down and so does part of the community it was made for, wishing you guys all the best for future mates!
Poor sonic stadium, they’re copping it of late…
Just to amend the article here, SegaSonic Radio had long ditched ZRN several months ago, following their inactivity. SSR is not affected by this turn of events.
However, SegaSonic Radio is rebuilding itself following the recent server wipe that The Sonic Stadium suffered.
That’s odd–because there were more than a few people listening to said stream this morning >_<

Yeah, the admins never killed the stream. They just assumed our name, or something. We left ZRN back in 2008 at some point.
OH SHIT! What the hell’s been going on!?
