Is it a price cut, or something more?
Sony has been making the rounds, contacting several facets of the media to inform them of an announcement for this Tuesday. Of course, with the company being the teases they are, no further information was given.
Nearly all signs, however, point to a price drop for one of the Playstation consoles. Evidence has surfaced that the Playstation 2, which still sells quite well worldwide, could drop to $99, with at least one retail chain planning for a price cut come Sunday, April 5th. However, a Playstation 3 price cut isn’t out of the question, as it may be just what the console needs to get back in the running this generation. Currently, the Wii and XBOX 360 far outsell the PS3 worldwide.
Also in the mix is news that Sony’s announcement will have global ramifications for the company, and that may not be a good sign. As a whole, Sony’s business has tanked in the past fiscal year, and its electronics division has suffered especially. No one thinks Sony would do what Sega did eight years ago and pull out of the console business, but in drastic economic times, anything is possible.
TSSZ News will let you know of Sony’s announcement tomorrow.

Do it Sony. Pull out. I want to see you die for being the leading cause for Sega dying D:
An eye for an eye people.
biit harsh don’t you think =/
1. Sega ain’t dead
2. Hamurabi was probably senile when he wrote that, I don’t care if it was the worlds first rule system half of it is ‘balony’
I know sony’s pretty giant and all, and i know it’s suffering a bit in the economic crisis… but sheesh poor guys, either the media that is tssz is focusing on them or they’re copping a fair bit….
Sony should do that because most people are buying Wii and Xbox 360 are less money and Playstation 3 is way to high
What is the PS3, like $500, they should give that the price drop, not the PS2. I mean some dudes are probobly trading in their PS2′s for a 360. Pity. Not all of us care for your Metal Gear/Final Fantasy exclusives!
will the system is $400 on the gamestop site but ya still to much money and its not worth it because i believe it was said that the system doesnt have a many games for it i hear
also this system only has about 381 games while Wii has 669 games and Xbox 360 has 723 and i did all so some of the numbers might go for those game books but ya Playstation 3 doesnt have many games so like ya its not worth it in my opnion
I don’t think Sony will drop out of the console race, at least not this generation. If at the end of this gen, PS3 is still a far off 3rd, I don’t think we’ll see a PS4 for at least a while though. Backing out early like Sega did though will just ensure they don’t ever have another console again, like Sega hasn’t.
Sony shouldnt frop out, since they are still the holders of the best selling consle of all time the PS2 and theve been in the market for a good ten years now, not to mentino the Ps3 has some A-list games such as Little Big Planet, MGS4, FFXIII, and others, and unlike the wii it doesnt suffer from crappy 3d party games, nor does it crap out when it gets to hot, its just that there PS3 is so expensive and the consle itself is so bulky that people have leaned toward the family friendly wii, and the Xbox 360 which has alot more Great Games and better online mode.
Sony’s not going anywhere. The PS3′s not doing BADLY, it’s just losing by quite a ways. The PSP is doing well despite it’s lack of support, and the PS2 is STILL doing well.
Remember the Gamecube? Was losing but that didn’t mean Nintendo considered it a failure; I highly doubt Sony consider the PS3 a failure. If it’s a failure in anything, it’s making BluRay into a mainstream media platform, which it isn’t and probably never will be.
The PS4 is inevitable, like the Wii did for GC will make up for the mistakes the PS3 made (bringing along with a plethora of other problems…)
Interesting Sonic news.
Who knows…
I agree w/ PJMan. If it weren’t for their PS2 system having a DVD player w/ it, it wouldn’t have sold that easily back then. I also hope their console business dies so they could see what it’s like to go downhill just like they did to SEGA.
Besides, even though they would end up a step higher than SEGA w/ graphics, SEGA still was ahead of their time. They were the first to have enhanced 3D graphics back in ’99 BEFORE Sony came out w/ a PS2. Not to mention having the first console to have an online gaming system.
