M&S Olympics Jumps to #3 on British Charts

mnsSonic the only Sega Presence for Last Week’s Sales

There was good news in Britain for Sonic, bad news for much of Sega’s other promising franchises, and incredible news for a clash of gaming titans that is clearly withstanding the test of time.

The Wii edition of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games jumped twelve places on the British multiplatform sales charts last week, from number 15 to number 3 overallWii Fit and the XBOX 360 edition of The Godfather II were first and second, respectively.

The DS version of Mario and Sonic also was in the top 40, clocking in at #30, down two places from last week.

In all, unofficial tracking site VGChartz.com estimates that between both versions, well over 11 million copies of the game have been sold.  A majority of the sales occurred in Europe, according to VGChartz.

Elsewhere on the charts, Sonic and the Black Knight clung to a top 40 spot, dropping five places from the previous week to #32.  It was the only other Sega title on the charts this week–no MadWorld, no House of the Dead, nothing.

With continued hype for the Mario and Sonic olympic clash, now’s a good time to participate in our @Issue poll, where we ask if you want to see Mario and Sonic together in a platformer.  Right now, 58 percent do–what say you?
