Invigorates Debate on Paying for Content Already on Disc
TSSZ News has followed from time to time areas not easily accessible from the beaten paths in Sonic Unleashed. Many factions of the Sonic research community have dived in and wondered whether these areas were long forgotten in development, or a sign of things to come.
Yesterday, ArchangelUK of the Sonic City Blognik confirmed at least some of those explored areas will become a part of future DLC packs, and that yesterday’s patch released for XBOX 360 owners is a precursor to that fact.
“Those speculating as to whether the patch means journeys to the ‘hidden areas’ the Sonic game research teams are looking into are on the cards the answer is… yes,” AAUK noted as part of yesterday’s updates.
“How much, what, on what and when is but a mystery for now but more is coming,” he continued.
The news mean sSonic fans will once again travel down a road preferred to be less traveled–paying for content that already exists at least in part on the disc. It was one point of contention with the 2006 Sonic, given the overall mediocre nature of the title. DLC packs released to date have included more difficult modes of existing levels as a major chunk of the content, but thus far, most fans haven’t seemed to mind.
It is probable we’ll see further developments come tomorrow, as alternating Thursdays usually mark DLC updates for Unleashed on the XBOX 360. Last week’s presumed update was skipped for the XBOX 360, only for PS3 owners to play catch-up. TSSZ News will keep you informed.

Hmm, not sure on paying for something I parshally have. D: I wonder if SEGA will be gernerous enough to have some FREE DLC? although I highly doubt, and I am guessing they will stick with the regular amount of MP’s too. I am still waiting for my GreenHillZone continant SEGA. >:3 that would be godly.
Sad thing is, i already knew that the “Hidden Areas” (or beta areas as some people called them) was going to be DLC the reason why is if you think about it,
When the First patch was released they added water texture, that means they are going to do something with that, also before the Chun-nan DLC was released i found a “Hidden/beta/unused Area” which it turned out to be the End of “Dragon road Night act 1-2″ which means all the other beta areas are going to turn out to be DLC.
Only thing that gets me though, What about the 201th Sun medal, there is no way that they are going to make the 201th sun medal DLC, it could be maybe that it’s not going to be a DLC area but is actually a beta area, then again i’m getting ahead of myself, now we just wait for more DLC.
This time around I don’t mind. Because along with these beta areas comes totally new content, new gimmicks, and also other levels alongside these ones which are totally original. This is compared to Sonic 06 where everything was already on the disc, and you just couldn’t play it until you downloaded the key.
Still though I would love to see either downloadable Knuckles or some sort of Retro remake. Preferably one of the levels from Sonic 3 that’s not Angel Island Zone (We already have that… it’s called Abadat). I’d love to see a Carnival Night remake or a Marble Garden remake.
To clarify – Sonic 06 had it on there already as you rightly say. Unleashed’s stuff IS all new, otherwise you wouldn’t be downloading large chunks of stuff best way to think of the “areas” that are there are placeholders – some may use them, some may not. Gotta wait and see!
Interesting indeed, does that mean on top of all the DLC, the 360 will get completely new levels if so im surprised Sega hasnt even personally said anything about it.
I knew it! I knew those areas were gonna be part of Future DLC! I knew this since the Chun Nan Adventure pack came out, with nighttime act 1-2 taking place in a further area of act 1, which was the second half of the level not in the original act 1.
But yep! I knew those areas would be a part of future DLC!
watch SEGA will add a new location soon. That will be nice.
I think if they added more content and areas to explore, it’d be one heck of a Sonic “Adventure”. XD
All terrible puns aside, I’d be pretty happy with Unleashed set on a huge open field so Sonic can just run at mach speed. Wait, better yet! Release a DLC of the Green Hill Zone! THAT would be awesome!!!!
…
I am not sure what to say. Are you this inbred? It is unfinished/pre-planned stuff for DLC. Use your brains.
Yaaay! This sounds great (if I heard right…)! Even if I don’t have that version I’m happy!
Hydra boss DLC anyone?
