More than 20 M&S Winter Olympics DS Caps

Tristan Oliver | April 29, 2009

winterolympicsA Detailed Look at the Portable Edition

Last week we presented some screenshots from the Wii edition of the upcoming Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games.  That’s where a lot of the attention toward the whole franchise is being directed toward, but somewhat forgotten will be the game’s corresponding portable edition for the Nintendo DS.

Thankfully, French site Planete-Sonic.com hasn’t.  As part of their two-tiered preview of the upcoming game, the website has posted plenty of existing photos from the Wii edition, but in previewing both the Wii and DS versions, they also posted more than twenty screenshots from the DS edition!

Using the term “new” here, as before, will be relative.  These appear new but to some, may not be.  We’re in the process of getting a translation of the Planete Sonic preview, and when we do, that component of the story will be passed along.  In the meantime, check out the plethora of pictures below.

It’s hard to believe that what once what was only possible graphics-wise by a Playstation (well, for home video gaming, at least) is now easily duplicated and able to fit in your pocket with the Nintendo DS.

Jeez, we’ve sure advanced in ten years. These screens are beautiful.

Jumping Jeusus!! Sonic model looks absolutley terrible . Why the hell is it all jagged anf blurry, all the other models are perfectly fine for the DS’s crappy graphics,, but Sonics is just..FAIL.

That is strange, the only thing I can think of as an excuse would be ‘it was a rush job’. But that’s ridiculous since he is the titular character. Maybe they just didn’t care, since it’s so far off and this was just a preview.

This is not a big advancement to praise DS for…

PSP does way better with graphics.

yeh but the psp doesnt have any good games that use those capabilities, and the sales show for it.

DS has potential for awesome graphics, but they don’t put much effort into them. But hey, Gameplay >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Graphics

Mario and Sonic is good gameplay now?

Oh, stop complaining. All the fan-base does is “bitch bitch moan whine” about everything, even when it’s good news.

Can’t wait for this game! I loved the first one, and this one looks even better! I’d say that Sonic model is off because it’s a early model… But who knows?

    @ BlackHawkOmega (aka GENERALZERO)

Thank you. Your one of the only good members of the sonic fanbase anymore.

    GRAPHICS DONT MEAN ANYTHING.

SONIC 06 HAD GLITCHES BUT HEY IF YOU GET PAST THOSE YOULL FIND THAT IT WAS AN AMAZING GAME

All sega does is try to please you guys and you only whine and bitch and complain like theres no tommorow.

and then you guys say the xbox 360 is the best system ever. well guess what theres more glitches in that one system than 100 copies of sonic 06 put together.

@Exile-san: I actually think it looks a bit smoother than the first.

    cool

Are you guys saying that the DS’s graphics technology matters more because game play matters more? What you’re seeing here is about as good as DS graphics are going to get. The PSP is massively hamstrung by it’s crappy controls though.

Regardless, I don’t know what anyone complaining about Sonic’s model being too low poly or blurry compared to the others is smoking.

Peach appears to have the mouth of a lamp ray. They’re all using minuscule textures.

@BlackHawkOmega- I just turned on the DS version of the game (I haven’t played it in a long time…) and I agree, it’ s loads better than the first one.

@Phos- Good lord no! The gameplay is what matters the most! And personally, I thought the first one was a blast, so I’m sure I’ll like this one too.
