CONFIRMED: Nude Elise Model from Sonic 2006 a Fake

sonic2006Original Modeler Speaks, Skin Meant to be Under Wraps

TSSZ News can now confirm the alleged nude texture skin for Elise, which crept up as a part of a model within Garry’s Mod, did not originate from Sega in any way, shape, or form and does not have any official ties with Sega or the 2006 Sonic the Hedgehog.

Leaving a comment on our original story Tuesday, the original source of the files, Facepunch Studios forumer Mariokart64n, confirmed that the Elise model had to be rebuilt, and that required an extra texture skin–in this case, fully textured female anatomy that has been seen in photos by thousands.  The model, with said skin intact, was then ported to Garry’s Mod, and never back into the original game from where it came.

Here are Mariokart64n‘s comments, where he notes this particular model of Elise was never meant to see the light of day:

That model was accidentally leaked out. 60% of the model had to be remodeled. during this process I had also considered giving her a complete body. To save time I took another model and used it with Elise’s model.  Later in the gmod stage, I decided to scrap the whole thing.

But the “Sonic” project for gmod was entirely private for the sonic-cult community… some how everything got spread all over Facepunch…and ultimately everywhere.

I don’t understand why people have to find exploits then go around accusing others of foul play.  Especially since the game industry is already taken harsh criticism for violence and very slight nudity.

THE NIPPLE WAS NOT PRODUCED BY SEGA OR ANY OF ITS PARTNERS.

I can’t believe the immaturity…like wow a nipple on the internet O_O…yeah lets blame Sega…seriously, whoever has that Elise model, please delete it before you cause serious damage to Sega and the sceners that worked hard to get such models into gmod.

TSSZ News editor Ryan Bloom contacted Mariokart64n for comment on the matter, after we learned that HunterTSF, who broke the original news to the community via the Sonic Stadium forums, attributed his discovery mainly to a download found at the Facepunch studios forums, where the Elise file sits.  There, Mariokart64n is well known for remodeling, rigging, and repurposing 3D models from other games to be used in Garry’s Mod.  He handles imports for the mod by request, and thus far, his 3D contributions have been numerous and include other Sonic models, with Eggman, Tikal, and what appears to be a custom Sally Acorn among them.  Also noteworthy is that some of his exports include nude models of Hitomi and Lisa from the Dead or Alive franchise, a fighting favorite well known for its T&A selling points.

Earlier this morning, TSSZ News discovered a possible clue that further cast the legitimacy of the skin into doubt.  More than one year ago, the Elise character model may have been submitted to mariokart64n by another Facepunch member for cleaning up, but up until we knew the real deal from Mariokart64n, the extent of that cleaning up or how it was accomplished wasn’t known.  Take a look at this post from April 20th, 2008 by forumer Link00y:

I sent Elise to MarioKart64n…unfortunately the converter is unable to convert human models correctly…thus it in fact totally messes them up. However, mk absolutely wanted to have Elise…and as he can model from scratch he used his knowledge to put her together again – Eggman’s also messed up when it comes to everything after decompiling – at least my decompiler messes him up.

Though Mariokart64n notes that the project was meant for the “Sonic-Cult community,” when reached for comment by TSSZ News, X Cult administrators denied any invovlement.

“I’ve never seen such a thing posted on X-Cult,” Cult head Sazpaimon told TSSZ News.  “Oh, and I also hate Facepunch; I wouldn’t work with them to cure cancer.”

The news will be welcomed by initial naysayers who cast doubt on the whole discovery yesterday.  In those cases, attribution was made toward the final texture map found on the Sonic 2006 disc.

As to the original source of the information, HunterTSF, he told TSSZ News late last night that he had some doubt, though not a lot, and admitted he didn’t want to see the model’s authenticity verified as the real deal:

It’s possible that the model released may have been edited, but I’m doubting it. That is, unless someone actually was interested enough in taking the time to model and texture the rest of Elise’s body, and place it under the official one’s clothes, allthewhile keeping the proportions in-tact. But, this is indeed a possibility. Maybe there is more than one model of Elise on the disc? Or, perhaps this is an edit?

I don’t know. [....]  Personally, I wouldn’t like this to be true, the last thing I want is for the game to be re-rated. I’m sure that’s the last thing that the Sonic community needs – an M re-rating would be the final nail in the coffin for the Sonic series in the mainsteam gaming media outlet.
