Community Build Allows New Levels, Werehog
Though there are plenty of other community projects getting attention these days, continuing to slip under the radar is a flourishing community dedicated to AJ Freda’s Sonic Robo Blast 2.
Like other projects offering their take on Sonic Unleashed, SRB2ers are getting in on the act with the DOOM 2 mod, making their own tribute levels. Though they look primitive compared to the official Hedgehog Engine’s capabilities, these WADs, like the game, can switch between 2D and 3D perspectives…and yes, even the Werehog has made an appearance in recent SRB2 fan works.
Much of this is possible in part thanks to the development of what’s called the Sonic Robo Blast 2 Community Build. It was originally devised late last year, and according to the official Community Build topic thread at SRB2.org,the intent is to continue improving upon original developer Sonic Team Junior’s decade of hard work:
SRB2CB is a new idea on how to improve srb2 as a canvas for level designers. It’s goal is to keep expanding on the idea of providing more variation to modders. Seeing the ever growing list of suggestions of what should be in SRB2, it seems more and more likely that many good suggestions probably won’t be officially implemented in SRB2, since we’re an open source community, it’s very easy to try and cater to those suggestions if the staff won’t do it.
The reason why it’s named community build is for one reason, there’s many different exe mods maintained and worked on by different people, by taking suggestions and contributions from the whole community allows for a much wider range in making SRB2 better as a whole.
So this means that anybody can contribute to this project, whether it’s code, socs, sprites, or textures to use for making more varied levels for SRB2, as long as the contribution is good enough.
If you’re contributing source code, it’s preferred that you ifdef your code if you post a source file, if it’s a snippet, just tell us the name of the file and where to put it.
If you’d like to help out with the ongoing project, or wish to download the current version 1.109, you’re encouraged to visit the linked thread above. In the meantime, its capabilities are executed in the two videos below–with one area meant to emulate Windmill Isle, and the other showcasing the a more flat Werehog.

Nothing interesting today…man
That did not look good. I rather play the real Unleashed than some fan game crap!
I’d have to agree with Werehog. Though I do respect fan games to a certain extent (and how I’m at school and can’t view the videos), I’d much rather play the original Sonic Unleashed on my 360. Or, if I want side scrolling, the originals on the Genesis or Sonic Rush.
Yay! I never thought someone would agree with me but someone did!
The first Sonic one is actually a good effort. The second video is just embarassing, though.
Meh…
Oh God… And it was looking so promising too… *facepalm*
srb2, now with extra unleashed!
actually i like this idea,, ive always loved the srb2 community and thier crazy mods
first few commentors, you guys are boneheads. This puts the real sonic unlashed in teh dust!
fan games suck usally since the controls are slippery and poor…
It’s a fan game guys, experimenting is always a part of making a game succeed.
Just give em time, there is no need to be that harsh on the game. =/
I swear to god this mod and article is ruining the good name of SRB2
SRB2 was not made to be an unleashed fangame
It was made to be a Sonic fangame
Some Unleashed fan made a mod of it to make it into Unleashed
.. This is not from the SRB2 community itself, at least not the good part of it, this was created by some minor side part of the community.
Sorry, but I don’t get why people like SRB/2 so much… I played it, and the engine is pure shit. Engine meaning the controls and physics engine.
I like the day one
@Senku & Chrispy: Exactly. Those obsessive nincompoops can’t at least try to make levels based on Unleashed instead of being crap ports of the levels themselves?
SRB2 was not made to handle Unleashed. Put out some TRUE creativity for once.
Case in point, this mod is being made by Chisuun. Well, the unleashed mod. Werehog is vectorfan1′s work. Anyway, this Unleashed mod IS able to be supported by SRB2. It uses the new Community Build, which has an extra button for addng in your own skill. Speed boost is scripted into it and it’s a pretty good WIP boost. he’s planning to get CZ64′s help with the boost though. give it that Wii feeling, rather than 360. this is meant to clone the wii/ps2 only. the 360/ps3 has too many adventure feilds and stages for srb2 to handle. now please comment when you actually PLAY the demo AND the Wii/ps2 version.
Wow, I can’t believe I uncovered this old fossil.
In any case, yup, I really can’t believe that what started out as a means of showing everyone how newer users would go bat*** insane over an Unleashed mod would get mentioned on TSSZ.
I’m not even working on it anymore. Any and all interest with SRB2 was lost months ago. For anyone who possibly even reads this comment, that older version was ditched months ago for a more detailed version a few weeks after that version came out. It started out in the cliffy, grassy area of Apotos, and was to be made entirely from scratch.
