SFG Collaboration will Die Without Leadership in Place
Sonic Retro forum administrator Tweaker has officially set a Friday deadline for completing reorganization efforts on Project: Sonic Retro. If a general direction on the project’s future isn’t agreed upon by then, it will be the first major community collaboration to be outright cancelled in some time.
“It’s been a whole week now and absolutely nothing has happened,” Tweaker wrote as part of his ultimatum yesterday. He also used the opportunity to criticize the flurry of confusion and lack of vision that has followed in the days since former project head Chimpo abruptly stepped down from his post–wiping clean several key components of Project: Sonic Retro in the process.
Tweaker continued:
[Retro has] shown again and again that this community is incapable of handling a project of this caliber, so I’d suggest going out and starting your own individual projects after the fact or something like that. Absolutely ridiculous.
The extent of what needs to be accomplish was left relatively open-ended, other than a plea by Tweaker that “everyone agree on something.”
Since our report last week, very little progress has been made in terms of finding new leadership or a new direction for Project: Sonic Retro. Contrary to a detail in our earlier report, it appears there is no single director of the project at this time. Though a separate thread has been established to further the effort, much of its contents contain disagreement from everything on its intended target “platform” to color palettes to what character sprites and tiles should be used in-game.
Since this news broke, interested individuals have scrambled to come to a consensus and save the project. TSSZ News will update you at once when a decision is handed down on Project: Sonic Retro, one way or the other.
