More Specifically…the Extra Stages
Though it was not received so favorably by our editor, if everything holds, Sonic Rebirth may join a rather elite group of Sonic fan games that actually make it to completion.
The remake and update of classic Sonic 1 is being finalized, so says Fast the Hedgehog, who wrote in to TSSZ News yesterday to give us the update. But it won’t just be Genesis/Mega Drive levels you’ll partake in.
As part of unlockable extras, you’ll also get a chance to speed through updates of levels from the Game Gear / Master System levels of Sonic 1. It means gamers will get a nice visual update to 8 bit days of yore.
TSSZ News can confirm that Bridge Zone, Sky Base Zone, and the Jungle Zone will be updated as part of the extra package. We have video of two of those levels below, as well as two additional videos of the main levels you’ll face in Sonic Rebirth, including Labyrinth Zone and Scrap Brain Zone. All signs point to a release around the time of SAGE 2009–we will let you know of any further developments.

omg this is so perfect. I dont think even sonicteam would make such a good rebirth version
Respect for the game designer(s) that made this
It looks good, but I won’t enjoy a fan-game like this. Sure is like a old classic Sonic game, everything is there. The only problem is that I’ve played thisg game before! It’s like an old Sonic game! The fun can’t go on forever! It’s the same thing, I mean comon, it isn’t fun to play Sonic the Hedgehog or an other classic Sonic games over and over again!
At least, he didn’t use a Sonic Advance sprite or something. Not enough new, if he put something new and intresting, I would enjoy iy probably.
Sorry for posting 2, Ok the jungle one seems like something that is a little bit new. But still, too classic and not enough new.
He…took the gargoyles out of the Labyrinth Zone.
PASS.
I don’t know. The screen shot right htere looks really good. Unfortunately, still at school and can’t view the videos.
Pretty fantastic in my opinion, can’t wait!
I would have thought if you make a new taller Sonic sprite you would have redesigned the levels so it doesn’t look like Sonic is scraping his head on the ceiling.
It looks a bit dodgy this.
