Square Enix Limiting E3 Presence on Swine Flu Fears

3rd Dev to Curtail, Biggest Name Yet

The Japanese arm of Square Enix has announced that they too will be limiting their presence at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo.  Like Capcom and Koei, the reason is the quick spread of the H1N1 flu strain in Japan.  Most reading this know it more commonly as swine flu.

Only some Japanese personnel will be making the trip, the company told Kotaku overnight.  They become the third big name to curtail their presence, and by far the biggest developer yet.

For those who think there aren’t repercussions from these “limited” moves as opposed to backing out altogether, there are other reports that suggest this move will impact the unveiling and appearance of the next Kingdom Hearts game, and possibly more Square Enix offerings.  When Capcom’s Japanese division backed out, that put the kabosh on the unveiling of the highly anticipated Dead Rising 2.

Though Sega’s Japanese arm has said they will attend and that their plans are unaffected, this situation is now evolving day by day, and anything can change.  TSSZ News will continue to keep you informed of who’s in and who’s out at this year’s E3, and why.
