E3 2009: New Mario & Sonic Winter Olympic Characters

Metal Sonic & Donkey Kong Confirmed, First Pictures & New Trailer Inside
The E3 goodness continues as Sega has unveiled two new characters set to compete in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. Firstly Donkey Kong who was actually pulled from the first Olympic adventure but the second character is altogether more intriguing and was high on people’s lists of most wanted new character. Metal Sonic is joining the party and is looking badass in his original design.
Courtesy of Sega we have a number of new pre-rendered screenshots and some high-resolution art of most known playable characters. While you’re at it you might as well check out the brand new trailer as well. Are you happy about DK and Metal Sonic? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Metal Sonic made me so happy, so shiny…
DK is a meh, but Metal’s awesome to see.
Looks like it’s gonna be a great game. Or at the very least, a pleasant one.

No kidding. He hasn’t really been in a major game in a while. Almost a decade. Not since Donkey Kong 64, I think.
I really smiled at the bit where Wario and Eggman sort of teamed up against Mario and Sonic. That was pretty cute, I guess.
ICE HOCKEY!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!! Its looking awesome! love how knux evades waluigi and how sonic and mario throw snow in warios and eggmans face XD Its like wario was the main villian in there.

shadow and luigi that is quite a suprise? who would have thoght they would pair together, i honestly think it should be luigi and tails.
Calvin: It’s not that he really isn’t major anymore, it’s the fact that he just really isn’t the great of a character, IMO. His games are usually decent at best, and most of the cast is just annoying. So, personally, I’m not very excited over his appearance.

For a trailer of a relatively…lackluster game…you have to appreciate the character interaction. The Mario/Sonic vs Wario/Eggman was class, and Shadow and Luigi hanging out is just pure hilarity.
I also thought Knuckles pwning Waluigi is very in character. If characters have actual personalities this time, the game might be worth owning for the novelty of characters interacting in ways you wouldn’t expect.
Amy asking Peach for dating tips would be made of win.

According to Sonic CD’s data sheet for Metal Sonic, his frame is made out of monocoque titanium.
On a side note, I’m actually quite surprised at Metal Sonic’s inclusion. Y’know, him being a robot and all… still awesome, nonetheless. And seeing as the game won’t be released for months to come, I’m sure that there’ll be plenty of more surprises up MASATOWG’s sleeves.

Never liked Donkey Kong(the character, not the series).
DK was a no brainer, since he usaully appears in Mario affairs anyhow. When I watched the trailer on the Nintendo Channel, it didn’t even register with me that he was new, becuase he’s just usually there. The only other DK characters I like are Diddy, Tiny, Dixie, Funky, and Kung Fu. I only like K. Rool sometimes.
Finally we will see who would win between Sonic, Shadow and Metal Sonic at speed skating!
Metal does look awesome though.
I am uncertain as to whether I will actually buy this. Unless it has curling in it. If it has curling, I will most definitely buy it. That sport would work perfectly with the Wiimote.

This actually looks better than the first olympic games, and I hope the hockey is fun, since I don’t like these games like NHL and so on. I don’t like that kind of gameplay, but SEGA might give us something special, but if no. I can live with that.
@omegasmash: Yeah, I know that, but I’m talking about, you know, one of his MAJOR games. Not a cameo in Punch-Out, or some barrel racing game. I mean, games like Donkey Kong Country.
As happy as I am to see Knuckles again, I really wish they’d put him in another big sonic game. All that aside, Metal Sonic? Couldn’t he just cheat, being a robot and all? DK as well? Hmmm…..Is he replacing Bowser?

Also something about Metal’s new design looks wrong, maybe his face is too short, I don’t know. He has actual fingers which he never used to have…
Still, good to see him again, and calling this game “lackluster” when we haven’t seen it yet is quite presumptuous; from what’s been said it might be quite nifty.

D.K. Is no surprising sight to behold. As for the robot, Metal Sonic. Very odd, yet somehow unique I guess. A good way to make this game interesting is doubling the character roster compared to the last one, such as adding four new Mario characters and four new Sonic characters. Each being skilled in their own stat in the four classified classes. While the other half being Nintendo related characters and Sega related characters, to help represent more of Nintendo and Sega. Although I question if this game would make mighty characters seem a bit cheesy..?
By the way… The render of Peach, with her arms extended away from each other and her legs crossed with the ice skates looks rather odd. Her upper half of her body seems larger while her lower half seems to fall short and tiny. Not as disturbing as the character herself and Amy are…

then for team sonic? well rouge is out. shes a lil too slutty for the olympics… o.o lol and whether u like it or not, cream hasn’t been seen as a referee…therefore, shes prolly the next new addition. lol a lot of u are prolly shuddering on tht thought but I, for one, would be more than happy too see my fav sonic character in the game.
