Quickly Rises in App Store Top 25
Even though it’s nothing more than a ROM, the re-release of the 1991 Sonic the Hedgehog for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch is selling like hotcakes.
Only out now for about two weeks, the game sits at #6 in the top 25 paid apps in the iTunes App Store. For the moment, that’s even beating addicting favorites like Bejeweled 2, Peggle, and Tetris.
User reviews for the re-release have generally been positive, with more than 550 reviews to date chalking up an average of three and a half stars.
If you wish to grab the app, you can via iTunes at a cost of $5.99.

Sega -_- just give us Sonic & Knuckles or Sonic Cd like come on everyone pretty much has this game seriously what about Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic Cd
This makes me sad.
If people buy this shit they’ll never try harder. These slowdowns are inexcusable. What a disgrace.
It’s nothing more than a ROM? What a stupid statement. How is that supposed to work, Tristan? A ROM doesn’t play itself.
They’re not thinking about the “hardcore Sonic fans” who have seen this game re-released a million times, they’re thinking about people who, surprisingly enough, HAVEN’T played Sonic 1 before and those who have played it before but haven’t in a long time. These people tend not to know the progress the games have made since the Genesis days and for the most part don’t know what the heck a ROM is.
…wise decision, SEGA, pull in the unjaded masses! We need more…unjadliness.
