Non-Official “Official” Sonic Channel Re-Posts SMC3 Release

Rumor AlertApparent Defiance of Shutdown Threats

Is it or isn’t it?

That question can be applied to many situations that have presented themselves over the weekend.  Principally, is there another classic Sonic compilation on the way for 2010, and is the outlet that claims it to be happening–an outlet proven illegitimate–trustworthy despite sticking to its guns?

The YouTube Sonic Channel, run out of Japan and proven to be an unofficial outlet by Sega despite the channel’s claims to the contrary, has re-posted its claim that Sonic Mega Collection 3 will be out next year.  The channel, updated on Sunday, claims again a release is coming for the Playstation 2, Playstation 3, XBOX 360, and Nintendo Wii.

The channel removed the listing last week after our first story on this rumor ran.  TSSZ News has since retracted that original story after Sonic City Blognik maintained ArchangelUK confirmed the channel was not an official outlet, despite a YouTube partnership with Sega’s Japanese YouTube channel and subscriptions held to other official Sega outlets.

“This account is unofficial and nothing to do with either SEGA or Sonic Team, their claim as to being official is erroneous and any information on there is not from official channels,” AAUK said late last week.  Though AAUK noted information on the channel “cannot be considered trustworthy,” no direct denial on a possible existence of a new Sonic Mega Collection was given.

AAUK had threatened a shutdown of the channel and its sister channels by Sega if it did not change its claim of being official.  The principal channel, across both English and Japanese editions, boasts more than 3,800 mutual channel friendships.

TSSZ News will once again reach AAUK for further comment on the matter.  We have clearly labeled this story as a rumor and will continue to do so throughout the process–though it now appears this could get quite ugly before any real clarity comes out.
