A Series of Unfortunate SFG Events

sonic-fan-flashOne Game Cancelled, Another Suffers Setback

On the road to 2009′s Sonic Amateur Games Expo, there are occasional potholes.

For two planned Sonic fan games in particular, some pretty big holes were hit.  First, sent in via our News Tips system by Xlwars23, the 3D fan game Sonic Heroes 2 Adventure, developed by igon22 and emonokes, has been cancelled.  A demo had originally been planned for showcase at this year’s SAGE.

Technical problems are being blamed for the cancellation.  However, concept development is now underway on a new, unknown, unnamed SFG, with intentions of an announcement later this month.  We will keep you informed.

On another front, LH the Hedgehog’s Sonic Phoenix has hit a big speed bump, one similar to the experience endured by Sonic the Hedgehog: Mecha Madness earlier in the year–a data wipeout.

According to LH who spoke on the SFGHQ forumers, a corrupt save file has forced him to put most of his SAGE plans on hold:

Nope. I have to say, full with sadness, that Sonic Phoenix is OUTTA SAGE, at least for now. I have another project here, like Pathworks, that some people told me to show them in SAGE. But I haven’t prepared anything on them more than a test level and some moves. Sorry.

But don’t mind! You can play SPhoenix. Fortunately, I had some Beta and Early Beta builds here, and I don’t mind if they’re released. But now, there are some things that I must say:

1 – Sonic Phoenix is NOT dead;
2 – Sonic Phoenix’ graphics, menus and etc would be done frm scratch again, what means that the next release won’t be the mess you’re playing. The next one will be WASTELAND.
3 – I’ll rework the story. Not because the first way I told the game story was full of misunderstanding, but because it needs more devilish. Sonic Phoenix tells the story of the end of the world in 2012 that everybody heard, and the “Bigboss” (better call him like this) won’t be an idiot recolour of Mephiles, as everyone supposes.
4 – Cross is deleted. I’m exausted of its horrible noob graphics. Maybe I’ll rework it and make it as the LAST level. All I know is that I won’t see Cross for LOOONG TIME.
5 – The Beta 602 download is here. Notice that this build was done before I fix some bugs on the level (like trains that float, noob-made platforms and a place where you can get stuck, near to the first four loops. But whatever, think on this like and engine test.

You can play that beta by clicking here.

So, for the moment, that’s two more titles you like won’t see come this year’s SAGE.  Of course, with the actual expo about a month out, anything can change.  TSSZ News is your source for all matters relating to this year’s Sonic Amateur Games Expo.
