Full Recovery Expected to Take Several Days
Administrators at Sonic Retro confirmed early this morning that its wildly popular forum suffered a serious outage–but said that it wasn’t an attack per se.
Retro webmaster Scarred Sun told forum members that responsibility for the outage has been placed on now former member x64:
Although he’s banned now, he did try to help fix things, as did Qjimbo, so if you see him on SSRG or whatever tell him it’s appreciated. The situation we’re looking at now is that while we have all topics and posts intact, we don’t have them sorted into forums as they normally are. It looks like we’ll be able to have most of them sort based on an old backup we have, but the rest will need to be sorted by the staff. I imagine this will probably take between a few days and a week to get back to normal, and we’ll try to tackle the more high-traffic forums first.
Though Scarred Sun says in her early morning statement that “some mistakes” were made, a post on the front page of Sonic Retro calls the problem a “non-malicious screw up”–even as the member responsible for the problem, x64, is now no longer welcome at the Retro forums.
And for a large chunk of Retro’s forum members, that explanation is not enough. Mentioned further by both Scarred Sun in her statement and angered Retro members were possible underlying circumstances that may be related to what happened at Retro and its forums overnight. We will explore that part of the story in a report Monday on TSSZ News.
Despite the ongoing shenanigans, the process of recovering has begun. Several sections, such as the General Discussion subforum, and the Sonic 2 HD project area, are back online as of this afternoon.

I still think North Korea did it while collaborating with Sega of Finland.
I think it’s rather obvious that the mysterious new administrator, REPK.EXE, is in fact x64. Some strange dealings going on methinks.

…No. That would be Xkeeper.
*rolls eyes*
This is why topics should be read in full: To prevent such baseless assumptions.
If there’s two kinds of stories that people don’t give a flying fuck about, it’s fan sites and SAGE.
Yawn, Tristan. Yawn.
That’s funny YoDog. I specifically go to TSSZ for SAGE information.
If I wanted to hear about OMG TEH NEW MARIO AND SONICS @ TEH OLYMPIX I’d, I don’t know, go to Kotaku, IGN, Gamespot or whatever site would normally carry such trivial news.
@YoDog: Go fetch a bone Fido. Trist does this out of the goodness of his heart, he’s not even paid for it! Be grateful already.
hmm, correct me if I’m wrong about the salary thing. My point still stands valid however.

I don’t think it should really bother you if an article is posted, it’s not as if it got a full page spread on the index page. There’s a lot of very questionable conduct going on at Retro and not near enough people are speak
Personally I think salvaging what’s left of the community is fairly worthwhile instead of letting it get into situations like this over and over. People have short memories so it’s great Tristan archives this, even if it does come off as a little n00bish to you.
I never recieved a request for comments. Which sucks because I have lots of them.
x64: It’s because you’re a worthless troll
I find it funny whoever said that decided to appear anonymous.
@YoDog: wow pathetic YoDog, you know how people don’t give a “flying fuck’ about? you. my friend.
