Japan Streaming Sonic X Online, on Mobile

Sonic XWill Include Eps. 53-78 Not Seen There

It is rare, though not unheard of, that some Japanese produced animation series sees a television run first in America before the land of the rising run.  Such was the case with the final third of Sonic X.  Episodes 53 through 78 never went to air in Japan, even though the local cast had recorded lines for it.

Now four years in the making, those episodes–as well as episodes one through 52–will find a Japanese audience, but not on television.  The Japanese Sonic Channel blog announced this week that the series will encore again, online, with all 78 episodes eventually available to view.

It appears that the episodes won’t just be delivered online via a PC, but through higher end mobile phones as well, according to the blog.  And according to a separate press release, streaming has already begin.  Episodes one through 52 appear to have been set for streaming today, with episodes 53 through 78 to be released starting Thursday, August 6th.

The bottom line–Japanese Sonic fans will finally have a complete look at Sonic X.  There certainly are implications for domestic audiences as well, as 4Kids has been experimenting with streaming the series online, in subtitles.  Whether the two events are related is anyone’s guess, but it bears watching down the road.  Thanks to TimmiT for sending this news tip in to TSSZ News.  If you have a story to share, you can tell us by clicking “News Tips” at the top of every page.
