SAGE 2009: New Aria of Destiny Demo Released

SAGE_2009Gaming’s Great Chars Mish-Mashed into Fan Game

Candesence’s entry into this year’s Sonic Amateur Games Expo includes not just Sonic, but a cornucopia of other gaming greats.

Originally meant as a college project, development on Aria of Destiny will continue beyond study sessions.  Already six months into development, the game was produced in Construct, an open source game maker.  Candesence admitted in his booth that the demo isn’t perfect–he in fact released an update during the expo with alternate control mechanics–but progress on the title continues:

Here’s a taste of what to expect fro AoD, right from the booth:

This is a Metroidvania, a platforming game which only limits you to your character’s abilities – exploration is not only possible, but reccomended! There are five playable characters – Ashe, Julius Belmont, Sonic the Hedgehog, Wario, and Crono. The latter three are unlockable. They have sub-weapons, also akin to Castlevania, which you can switch and use. If you find them, that is.

To play the demo, head to SAGE, click on “Booths,” and search for the Aria of Destiny button.  Candesence warns there are bugs, but that the build is enjoyable nonetheless.
