Still on Track for US Launch Next Week
Microsoft has released a list of what will be available with the launch of XBOX 360′s Games on Demand service, expected to launch next week. Though Sonic the Hedgehog was prominently announced to be a part of the library, it isn’t on the list of titles slated for launch day.
Another Sega title will make the cut when the XBOX 360 Summer Dashboard update is released, and that’s Sega Rally. It joins other fare such as Test Drive Unlimited, Assassin’s Creed, and Tomb Raider Legend, to name but a few.
But the lack of the 2006 Sonic on the list raised some eyebrows, and subsequently, questions as to whether the widely panned release is getting some tweaks before it hits Microsoft’s on-demand service. If so, it certainly needs it–the game was almost universally panned by the Sonic community upon its release for its multitude of glitches and bugs that made some areas frustrating, if not unplayable. It didn’t fare well with our review editor, either.
THURSDAY UPDATE: As it turns out, all of the gaming media was given a list of launch titles for the wrong territory. The link we cited yesterday, as it turns out, is the list of titles launching with Games on Demand in Europe. After receiving a revised list from news tipster TimmiT, the United States’ launch list adds three titles, and the 2006 Sonic is one of them. Equally puzzling now is why North America gets Sonic and Europe does not.

plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Sonic 06 is one of my fave games, even with the glitches. If there is a rework I will be so happy. fingures crossed
I like Sonic 2006, I can’t understand why “some” people say a LOT of abd things about it :S ?! Off course it isn’t ay Sonic Unleashed or ay Genesis game but still, the game is pretty cool actually (See I love ALL with NO EXCEPTION, all Sonic Games) but if one game is bad I’m able to considerer it bad, but SONIC 2006 IS NOT BAD at all !!! I pretty excited about this like ” Mr. Stephen@:If there is a rework I will be so happy”".
But I can’t be shuted up with SONIC UNLEASHED 2
I BALERY CAN’T WAIT for it !!!
^ROFL!!!!
@Sonic Unleashed (SU): Saying you love crap doesn’t make you cool, y’know, it just means you have awful taste.
I like the game but needs hell loads of work
According to IGN, only North America is getting Sonic 2006 for Games On Demand, leaving the UK out (at release, anyway).
Meanwhile, the UK is getting Sega Rally, whereas NA is not.
Which sucks for me, because I own Sonic 06, and would want to get Rally. Drats.
That aside, it looks like Sonic 06 is getting out on the release date, just not to European gamers; it would seem that bug-fixes are not a part of the deal.
Though, let’s face it, if they wanted to, they could have ALREADY fixed it up a bit, in which case I’ll be re-purchasing it anyway
Is there an article stating Sonic 06 won’t be available at launch? At IGN.com, it states that Sonic will be released on Aug. 11th.
What, you guys get Sega Rally and we get this trash? Screw that.
It won’t be reworked. SEGA won’t waste their money. I don’t know why they’re putting that game on Games on Demand.
I guess it’s just a financially cheap move for them, and they’re desperate for money, so they’re doing what they can.
We cited Kotaku as our source for the list, and they are claiming it’s the U.S. list.

(taps foot)
Let’s just wait and see. If it’s better than the piece of garbage that we got three years ago, then there may be a little hope.
As has been pointed out on the Kotaku page’s comments, their list is incomplete anyway.
Not that I recommend trusting IGN on anything, either. :p
Get out my way Amy, don’t make me hit a girl!!
The game has potential and it’s a good game. It needs work yeah, but I hope they get to finish it if they want it to re-release it on Demand.
But…will you really notice the fixes? Will you actually be looking and fetching through the glitches? Normally, a regular playthrough, you’ll find few glitches or bugs but few will lead to your death.
I have been killed by a glitch only twice ever since i got the game.
@Veiwtiful Jeff: Wow, way to be a complete, ignorant dick. There’s no such thing as bad taste in any case, it’s all a matter of personal preference. Besides, where the hell did he say he was cool for liking something? I mean, he didn’t even act like he was either. Ugh…
@Edwin Shy: Having playing the hell out of the game for about a week now, I agree with you wholeheartedly.
I dunno, but there’s something about ’06 that… relaxes me for some reason. I can’t help but feel a bit mellow when playing it, something I’ve never felt when playing any other Sonics.
Though I will agree that the infamous glitches and the High Speed Stages are a pain in the arse.
Anyway, I doubt it’ll see a fix-up, considering the release date. I can just imagine the furor when it comes out and everyone finds out it’s just as broken as the real thing.
Viewful: I don’t think he want to be cool or something! I don’t want to be lake that, but it is so lame to say stuff like that you said! If he likes the game, he likes the game! Get a life!
The game isn’t the worst in the world but it so much work left to make that game a good game. So many glitches.
I hate the game. It destroyed Sonic. And I just hope this thing they do now is just to get some money and nothing more. Because if they look back at that awful game and try to bring it back like the new Sonic… that’s just the worst thing that could happend. But I’m pretty sure that this just is a moneymaker and then I’m just happy. More money for SEGA! Wohoo!
I don’t think this game could be considered the worse Sonic game, sure I’m in the group that doesn’t particularly like it, but the worse Sonic game goes to Sonic Jam for the Game.com no doubts. It makes Sonic Genesis GBA game look awesome (add Sonic 06 into the mix and you end up having 06 as being one the the greatest Sonic games).
Not only were the controls sloppy but there was extreme slowdown and some of the levels ended up being near to impossible to complete (it first took me about 2 minutes to run up the tree trunk right before the boss in the Angel Island zone). Then you also have to get over the horrible greytone graphics and terrible sound (and to think that I bought the Game.com just for this).
Though to be fair that system was probably the worst handheld (let alone system) ever made. I actually had to beg my local Gamestore to take it from me (I’m not kidding about this I literally begged them until they agreed to take it from me, free of course).
Can’t we just forget about the more painful things in life?
Doesn’t Europe like Sonic more then America? So why do we have to suffer?
And nothing of value was lost.
@Blash: When you like terribly blatantly unfinished games that even the developers agree shouldn’t have been released, yes, you do have terrible taste. There’s personal preference, and then there’s outright stupidity.
@Osnic: I’d respond if I had some earthly idea what you just said. Nice job to both of you misspelling ‘Viewtiful’ by the way…
@VIEwtiful Joe: Oh dearie me, I accidentally misplaced two letters in a word, what have I come to?
Just shut up, your mindless ignorance is destroying my brain cells. Your views are equal to those of a 10-year-old child who has yet to realize that humans have differing catalysts for fun and entertainment, and makes fun of people who like or dislike things that he does not. It’s immature to insult what someone enjoys… obviously unless it’s something inhumane.
Why is it necessary to label someone with ‘bad taste’? MUST they enjoy or dislike everything that the general public does, or hell, even the developers of this very game? Absolutely not. That’s just pathetic.
Onto this subject, I doubt they’re going to fix any bugs or what-not, I don’ think SEGA would go through all that trouble fixing up a game that has already been out for so long, you know?
Haha, still got your Username wrong, my bad.
MRs Blash and @Osnic: I’m thankfull fot both of you defend my point of view I respect that a lot!
I like Sonic 06 but i’m not saying that is the best game of the world or something like that, but still, is a pretty good game, isn’t like SONIC UNLEASHED or GENESIS, or something but is a good game, Of course that game needs one thing or two, but STILL IS A SONIC GAME AND it’s nice
SONIC UNLEASHED ROCKS
