Original Sonic Lunchbox Art on EBay

Sonic SceneArt House Claims “Authentic” Original Item

You’ve probably seen the art before, especially if a longtime lover of Sonic.  The speedy blue hedgehog posing for a split second amid the checkered landscape, Robotnik in tow, was the visual signature of what made Sonic such a strong symbol of gaming in the 1990s.  Sonic’s classic look of attitude was among the first in a series of evolutions and reinventions of the hedgehog, and though you may not have seen it on a lunchbox or thermos–as this Ebay auction suggests–chances are, if you’re out of your teenage years, you’ve seen it somewhere, at some point, locked in the deep depths of your personal history.

img5701Now, if you have a few pretty pennies, you can own this original mixed medium art, courtesy of the Americana Art House, which has posted the art up for auction.  You can make an offer for it, or you can pony up $900 right now.

You’ll get what appears to be original black and white concept illustrations, the full finished color product, and the sticker which the art was produced for.  AAH dates the work back to 1993, and the company claims everything they auction off is “appraised and verified to be authentic,” promising a full refund if otherwise.

If $900 renders your wallet too empty, you may want to consider a second Sonic art auction, underway via the Lewis Wayne gallery.  The 12″x17″ art is going for a sale price of $499.95.  Only Buy it Now is enabled on the work.  Lewis Wayne’s auction lists their work as a promotional piece or possibly an unused cover from the Sonic the Hedgehog comics.  For the moment, we can’t verify the latter part of that claim–but you, as our readers, are pretty smart.  Can you?
