Sega’s Tokyo Game Show 2009 Lineup

Tristan Oliver | September 2, 2009

segaAgain, No Sonic Presence

The Tokyo Game Show will be held later this month at the Makuhari Messe.  Serving as a Fall finale of sorts for major gaming conventions, Sega will show up, but on their end, at least, no upcoming Sonic titles will be a part of their shown lineup.

Kotaku reports that other major titles, like Bayonetta and Phantasy Star Portable 2, will be on the TGS floor.  The full list is below, but note the lack of Sonic love at Sega’s booth, with Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing curiously absent:

  • Yakuza 4 (PS3)
  • Bayonetta (PS3, 360)
  • End of Eternity (PS3, 360)
  • Puyo Puyo 7 (Wii, DS, PSP)
  • Chin Sports (aka Wacky World of Sports) (Wii)
  • The House of the Dead: Overkill (Wii)
  • Phantasy Star Portable 2 (PSP)
  • Valkyria Chronicles 2 (PSP)
  • J-League Pro Soccer Club o Tsukurou! 6: Pride of J

Still, the “on their end” rhetoric must be used because of the publishing situation involving Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games.  Though Sega will publish the game in North America and Europe, Nintendo holds publishing rights to both the Wii and DS edition in Japan.  There could be hopes for Nintendo to show the title at the TGS…if Nintendo participated in the expo to begin with.  Usually, they do not, aside from major surprises.

Still, plenty of Sega fare will be on display, and we will be there to bring you all the details from this year’s Tokyo Game Show.  That’s right–TSSZ News plans to have a reporter on site at this year’s TGS, which takes place later this month.  Look for more details on that soon.

This lack of any real Sonic games still perplexes me. Sure I like the break, but you have to wonder just what they’re up to these days with the blue hedgehog (real game wise. Not minigame central or racing game)

That means there’ll be no Crush 40 live performance?..

  3. Spider on September 2nd, 2009 4.20 pm

I thought it was a good thing that a Sonic game has not been announced yet…

  4. Skai Cyan on September 2nd, 2009 4.52 pm

Say, why is it that Nintendp doesn’t participate in the TGS? It doesn’t make any good sense to me.

@Spider: Possibly, personally I want them to be working their butts off in the next two years for Sonic’s 20th anniversary – that may be the next mainstream game, in which case we’ve got another year-long drought ahead… unless we get another storyook title announced.

@Skai Cyan: It’s not really Nintendos stile. They want to give big surprises!

But no Sonic? Okay, cool. We’ve seen so much ASR and M&S now so it’s good with a brake and wait a bit. But when do we get the next real Sonic game!? Yeah, it’s pretty cool when SEGA is a bit secret like Nintendo, but I want to know! :(

Hmmm… Are Crush 40 there!? They have to be there! They said that they would come next year on TGS 2008!

@TailsTheHedgehog: hey, that would be awesome :) and since 20th anniversary is a big one, we might just see that happen (i can hope)

Maybe wil something be revealed on the showfloor itself. I really like the fact that there wasn’t a New sonic game announce for a while. sega is working on great stuff i know it!

I think it’s good to not know anything about a new real sonic game…we didn’t know about super mario galaxy 2 till last e3….so it must be good..

  10. Werehog on September 3rd, 2009 10.48 am

@allstarsonic: Everyone knew Mario Galaxy 2 was comming. It was so obvious!

  11. Spider on September 3rd, 2009 11.17 am

^ Oh my God, that’s such a lie, the Sun would blow-up just from it… Not really explode, more like eating Mercury and Venus and then destroying all life on Earth, then explode into a White Dwarf for the rest of it’s life.

Don’t be such an asshole Spider.
    But…well…Nintendo sucks! So who cares!?

Well….I don’t really care. So many other great games is coming that I’m going to get. But I hope they give us something big for 20th!!!!!!!!!!!! But I still want a Sonic game before that! I mean a real…not like ASR for exampel.

You and Werehog are both blinded fanboys. This is about protecting your favorite VGC and that’s fine in my book, but it pisses me off when you bash something else to defend it. Just play the Sonic games if you want, it’s not my place to tell you what to and/or not to play.

  14. Sonic Unleashed (SU) on September 3rd, 2009 2.24 pm

I agree with Osnic and Werehog, I hope a big Sonic game for 20th but before that I want want SUPER SONIC GAME :D SU2 or SONIC UNDERGROUND hehe :) something I dont’ care…

  15. Werehog on September 3rd, 2009 2.53 pm

Haha! Osnic and werehog! :D Yeah…

But SU here knows what he’s talkng about!

It’s best for them to stay quiet, and take more time to work on their next Sonic project.

I wish they would take a 3 year development cycle.
